Michael Fremer (Michael Fremer, World Renowned Fine Audio Reviewer, Global Analog/LP Expert, Music Reviewer, Editor, Radio/Television Producer, Audio Spokesperson, Music Producer, and Performer.) is the winner of the 2018 Society Silver Anniversary Founders Award from the Los Angeles and Orange County Audio Society, it was announced today by the Society and Bob Levi, President and CEO.
The Founder's Award is the highest honor the Los Angeles and Orange County Audio Society bestows annually on the one individual in fine audio bringing excellence in achievement to audiophiles worldwide and is at the top of their industry. The Society is the largest in the world, with more than 2400 members.
The Founders Award will be presented to Michael Fremer by the legendary John Atkinson, Editor of Stereophile Magazine.
Michael Fremer is the editor of analogPlanet.com, and a senior contributing editor at Stereophile magazine. He’s also contributed to The New York Times, The San Francisco Chronicle, Consumer Digest, and The Bergen Record (New Jersey) among other publications and periodicals.
Fremer appeared on the oft-run ‘History of Audio’ documentary on The History Channel. He’s also been on MTV, The Today Show, CNN, The Howard Stern Show and hundreds of other radio and television shows throughout the United States, talking about the high-end audio listening experience, home theater and the ongoing, unlikely resurgence of LP vinyl records. He appeared in 2013 on Gary “Baba Booey” Dell’Abbate’s VH1 Classic television program “For What It’s Worth.” His other credits include supervising the Academy Award nominated soundtrack to the 1982 Disney science fiction feature film TRON starring Jeff Bridges and Bruce Boxleitner, and co-writing the animated feature film Animalympics, on which he also provided voices along with Gilda Radner, Billy Crystal and Harry Shearer.
He was an on-air personality at WBCN-FM in Boston during the 1970’s and has produced and voiced hundreds of radio commercials, which have run across America.
In 2006 he wrote, produced and hosted the DVD 21st Century Vinyl: Michael Fremer’s Practical Guide to Turntable Set-up, which has received unanimous worldwide media acclaim. Italian and German versions followed. The DVD has to date sold more than 16,000 copies.
A second DVD, It’s a Vinyl World, After All, Michael Fremer’s Guide to Record Cleaning, Storage, Handling, Collecting & Manufacturing in the 21st Century” was released in December, 2008.
Michael has served two terms as a Director on the Society Board and has been Vice President of Analog for the organization. He will serve as Senior Vice President of Analog for the 2018-19 term. We are delighted he will executive produce The Million Dollar System for the Los Angeles Audio Show, June 8-10, 2018, in Orange County.
The Los Angeles and Orange County Audio Society now celebrates its 25th year serving top audiophiles in Los Angeles and Orange Counties. The largest audio society in the world with over 2400 members, the non-profit organization provides up to 14 major events per year in Greater Los Angeles and showcases and promotes the very best in great gear and recordings worldwide. Though the majority of members hail from Southern California, the Society boasts members from 14 states and nine countries.
The Society’s Board of Directors awards the Founder’s Award annually to those professionals in the high end who continue to advance fine musical reproduction in the home and distinguish themselves as the best in their profession.
The 2017 Founders Award went to John Grado, President of Grado Labs.
The 2016 Founders Award went to Bob Carver, President of Bob Carver Audio.
The 2015 Founders Award went to Harry Weisfeld, founder of VPI Industries.
The 2014 Founders Award went to Chad Kassem, President of Acoustic Sounds.
The 2013 Founders Award went to Robert Harley, editor in chief, of The Absolute Sound.
The 2012 Founders Award went to Tim de Paravicini, President of E.A.R. of Great Britain.
The 2011 Founders Award went to Richard Vandersteen, President of Vandersteen Audio.
The 2010 Founders Award went to Keith Johnson, Executive Producer of Reference Recordings,
and the 2009 Founders Award went to EveAnna Manley, President of Manley Labs.
Other previous winners include Harry Pearson, Founder The Absolute Sound, Dave Clark, Editor of Positive Feedback, Dennis Had, Founder Cary Audio, David Robinson, Editor-in-Chief of Positive Feedback, and Ray Kimber, President Kimber Kable.
The Society, in conjunction with the Los Angeles Audio Show in Orange County and Marine Presson, will co-ordinate and support LAAS, the newest and largest home entertainment show in North America open to the public. It will be held at the Hilton Hotel and Atrium Hotel across from the Orange County Airport in Irvine, June 8-10, 2018.
The Founders Award will be awarded at the 25th Annual Gala and Awards Ceremony in Michael Fremer's honor in Los Angeles on December 2, 2018, in the Grand Ballroom of the Holiday Inn and Conference Center in Buena Park. The trophy that will be awarded to Fremer is specially produced by the same company that created the Oscar for The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
