AUDIOPHILE SOCIETY ZOOM MEETING

Wednesday, July 20th, 2022, at 7:30 p.m. Eastern

The Audiophile Society will conduct this meeting anywhere you want to be.

Please join us this month for an enlightening presentation by Norman Varney that we’re calling, “Noise and Vibration from an Audiophile’s Perspective.” Mr. Varney is the Principal Consultant for A/V RoomService, Ltd. Prior to AVRS he was with Kinetics Noise Control as their Acoustic Product Development Manager, and Owens Corning at the Science & Technology Center, where he was a Senior Engineer and Acoustic Design Center Lead for the Acoustic Systems Business. He has spent a considerable amount of time testing in anechoic chambers, reverberation chambers, and acoustic labs.

If you’ve attended a hi-fi show in the last few years, you’ve probably noticed his EVP isolation devices in many rooms. Our friend Bob Katz reported on them during a Zoom meeting with us last year. Bob was, of course, very impressed, and he uses Norman’s products in his mastering studios. Norman has also been instrumental in helping exhibitors optimize their room setups.

Mr. Varney also worked at Music Interface Technologies, where he designed critical listening and viewing environments as the Director of the Custom Installation and Home Theater divisions. While there, he designed the very innovative and elaborate electrical system for the Scoring Stage of Lucas Film’s Skywalker Ranch, and was the lead for the 2C3D and 5C3D Certification Programs. Earlier in his career, Mr. Varney owned Alta Buena Stereo, a retail store in California. He was also a successful drummer and has an extensive musical background.

Not impressed yet? Let’s add that he has designed well over 500 critical listening rooms around the world, and is an active member of American Society for Testing and Materials (Committee E-33 on Environmental Acoustics), Acoustic Society of America, Institute of Noise Control Engineering, Audio Engineering Society (sub committee AES-4id-2001 for establishing diffusion coefficient standards), National Association of Music Merchants, and Custom Electronic Design and Installation Association. He has written and presented white papers for the industry, and writes consumer-oriented articles for Positive Feedback, Widescreen Review, Audio Express, etc.
