State-of-the-Art Network Switch Delivers Ultimate Audio Performance

Whereas other network switches have been adapted from the mass market home computer industry, Silent Angel purpose-designs all its network switches to deliver the best possible audio performance.
Our new flagship, Bonn NX is the culmination of everything Silent Angel has learned about Audio-Grade Network Switches: isolating, filtering and reducing noise to preserve the integrity of the source and deliver a pure signal to connected components. As with all Silent Angel products, our objective in designing Bonn NX is to ensure the device operates at a stable system voltage, sends precisely timed data packets and reduces extraneous output noise. We have found that even the smallest enhancement can improve sound quality and the implementation of many small enhancements elevates the potential of High-Resolution Streaming Networks. One such enhancement is the deployment of Bonn NX’s Ethernet Ports: the eight, heavily gold-plated Gigabit Ethernet Ports have been critically spaced, with distance specifically calculated to minimize potential signal interference.
Among the major advancements incorporated in Bonn NX is an exclusive TCXO Clock Module: Silent Angel's TCXO (Temperature Compensation Crystal Oscillator) is more precise than the Crystal Clocks found in other network switches, lowering latency issues and jitter effects. Operating at 25MHz, this module Eliminates extraneous frequencies and generates a pure and precise clocking signal. Distortion is a common byproduct when transmitting high- frequency network packets and Bonn NX lowers jitter to 369ps, whereas typical switches present at 705ps. The power source circuit for our TCXO clock utilizes multi-stage power filter technology, removing crosstalk and noise at 10MHz, 100MHz and 1GHz and feeding purified power to the TCXO module.
The power source circuit for the Bonn NX switch system utilizes an ultra-low-noise voltage regulator circuit. Featuring highly-efficient circuit design and fast response time, it is engineered to process wide dynamic range power. Powered by TPS56623x series which maintains lower output ripple under ALL load conditions, a high isolation common mode choke circuit for AC power input prevents noise pollution from AC power sources such as other network-connected devices or power systems. The customized Silent Angel AC to DC power module offers wide dynamic range, stable, low-ripple noise and is housed in an aluminum heat sink.
Bonn NX’s Revolutionary Chassis Construction consists of two layers of different, carefully chosen materials: the inner layer is galvanized steel while the outer layer is thick, high-quality aluminum alloy. This extravagant construction maximizes shielding and control of eddy currents while damping vibration and noise. EMI absorbers have been critically located inside the chassis while a trio of Silent Angel’s Stainless Steel S28 Resonance Control Feet damp mechanical energy from both internal and external sources, reducing mechanical and electrical noise, static electricity, etc. The result is improved dynamics and increased resolution of fine detail. Sleek modern design adds great aesthetic appeal, making Bonn NX a functional work of audio art.
Bonn NX also includes a host of user interfaces, including connection for an outboard (12 VDC) linear power supply such as our Forester F2. An external clock input port (gold-plated, at 25MHz) with Internal/external clock selector switch enables connection to ultra-precise, laboratory-grade outboard clocking systems (…coming soon from Silent Angel). A gold-plated ground connection terminal can improve noise reduction in certain systems while a LED light switch enables users to defeat the port status indicator. Taken together, these facilities promise long-term upgradeability and anti-obsolescence, keeping Bonn NX at the State-of- the-Art for years to come.
Like all Silent Angel products, Bonn NX has been engineered to flourish in Hi-Res music applications. Bonn NX supports Roon infrastructure, has been optimized for high-resolution streaming services such as Tidal, Qobuz, Spotify, etc. and for playing music collections from NAS (Network Attached Storage), Bonn NX works well with all major NAS brands. The Bonn NX enables users to create an isolated “Network Ecosystem” for audio, eliminating degradation from network interference and latency issues caused by bandwidth-intensive activities from PCs and other connected devices.
