Having used TVC and AVC based "preamp"/controllers most all of the past 15 years I can say assuredly that once experienced there's not going back to anything that either colors the sound or restricts dynamics - the two faults of nearly every active preamp and resistive based passive unit.

In reply to GUTB. Though I don't own a Allegri, I would not think of it that way. I use a TVC in my system and I can relate to why the author is so thrilled with this passive. I hope Townshend makes a Balanced Allegri in the future.

So, basically it’s a 4lbs single-ended passive preamp for $3k?
