I have the speakers and enjoy them more than my Kef reference (latest), although the speakers are very directional. I have three chairs in my home theater and if I sit on the left/right side I sometimes can't even tell if the opposite speaker near me is on! But i still love them
]]>I would think that would be too small for them. They simply need enough room to breath. Speakers capable of true low bass need to be in a room large enough to support low bass (long wavelengths). Victor, who also wrote up the Double Impacts here, is getting the Impact Monitors in for review, which may be much better suited to a smaller room like yours.
Best bet would to call Tekton directly and ask them about what would fit your room best.
Would you comment more about room placement and size? I have a small listening room (11' x 12') and am concerned my room will not let the Double Impacts breathe and perform to their potential. Any thoughts you can share around that?
]]>Thanks. My probable next speaker will be either von Schweikert VR55 Aktive, Einstein or Lumenwhites at 12 times the price of the Tekton. It sounds like the Tekton is possibly the equal of many electrostats such as Sanders, Kingsound or Martin Logans with their directionality and speed but with superior bass and dynamics. I think my wife would like Tekton's for her rock music (she had me get rid of the Monolith IIIs 20 years ago after we met). Otherwise, I listen to classical, jazz, opera and pre-1970s pop music, like 1920's to 1960s on Legacy Focuses. I will check out the Tektons if they are at the LA Audio Show in June.
]]>Yes, that is a limitation of the design. As a former Acoustat owner also (the original Monitor 4-panel design with the built in Servo-Charge amps) I am used to and okay with fairly directional speakers, and have a definite sweet spot in my room. On the other hand, the Tekton Lore I've had for the last six years, and continue to use as a lower price reference point, are less directional and more forgiving.
This is just another example of why there will never be a single "best" speaker, and why one must always understand their own preferences and biases before deciding on what speaker to get.
Any PF readers in the Chicago-area that would like to hear the similar (but much upgraded) Double Impact SE ($6500) we have them here at Audio Archon.
