All of which does not make the Manhattan necessarily better, just different. You would have to decide if this 'sound' fits your preferences or biases. It fits mine and fits right in with either the Playback Designs MPS-5 or the PS Audio Directstream DAC. Competitive with either? Maybe. Sure. Different? Definitely. Either the Playback Designs MPS-5 or the PS Audio Directstream DAC get you more of everything being more refined and resolving. And the PS Audio can also serve as a preamp and is networkable. But the Manhattan is a great deal and comes mighty close and offers a lot of features.

Yeah, for sure it does all the bits quote right. Bass, extension, control, air, presence… all the audiophile check boxes are checked. But like I said, it is not going to present the music like other DACs that have more of a 'sound' or character. This is why there are so many options for us to choose from. "

Did you actually read what you wrote? Did you understand it ? Did you (do you) believe readers have any idea at all, what exactly you were saying or describing ?

You state " it fits my preferences" , and then claim it both compares and then is quite distinctive from the others (DAC's) you referenced !

And the balls to ask $6-K ! ?

Here's a better idea for Mytek; Use the Brooklyn chassis exclusively: DAC board in one (entry-level, mid and top-line, retaining the current model names), power supply in the other and the third for option modules including, Phono, Streamer, Headphone amp and whatever tickles the fancy (and/or necessities ) of end-users.

This way, nice and clean. Simple. Sensible. Economical.

I would not sleep well offering up a $100.00 (albeit a linear one) power supply in an elongated chassis and slapping a $6-K price on it.
Just as the (inexplicable) real-estate market boom (in some areas), so too is the ridiculously priced Hi-Fi in the past ten years. And, similarly the inevitable and looming crash for both: back to sensibility --the fall-out shall reestablish.

I for one, can't wait for the return of the "value for dollar" proposition, backed up by sensible, stable, market (time-honored) sensibilities.

At that time, this $1,800. (true value) item will be within reach and not too far off Mytek's (what should be) $899.00 "Brooklyn" offering.

And we wonder why some of the "Chinese brands" circulating throughout the market place are creating such a stir ! "Value (and understanding) for dollar" an intriguing (and sensible) proposition.
( I'd suspect, readers all the more savvy are beginning to realize that with so many parts from China itself (chassis, parts, circuit-boards, including populated boards) being tested and assembled somewhere else simply does not add up to the pricing slapped on many of these over-priced offerings.)

Mytek is hardly the only ones, yet once we yank-off the lid and peek inside, nobody in their right mind could add up six-thousand dollars worth of internals and/or credentials. However, if $5-$20K cables are used for reference, then indeed there will be no limit (or end in sight) for the "follow-the-stupidity" wagon. Until that is, the impending crash is upon us.

Good grief.
