I agree that these speakers are a fantastic value, and I'm glad you pointed out how great they sound at lower volumes - important for someone like me, who lives in a condo. I have them paired with a Rega Elex-R, and it's a great combo.

They are large 3-way bookshelf speakers The midrange BMR driver has vary uniform dispersion and the large scan speak woofer allows for very deep bass extension. They measure as an incredibly accurate speaker and are available in various custom finishes if you don't like the stock options

One option is mentioned right in this article, Ascend Acoustics Sierra Tower (w/ the RAAL ribbon tweeter option). Well worth an audition.

In reply to Tasosman7 .. Magnepans. Harbeth. Ascend Acoustics. KEF. Vandersteen. Monitor Audio. I'm sure there's a bunch more I'm forgetting. A lot depends on your room, your listening habits and your other gear. My favorite over all speaker line is Proac. I'd look into the Studio 118 and SM100 in your price range. My main speakers are Studio 148's and I love them to death.

It's an LS-50 killer. And I've owned both - definitely prefer the Sierra's. My favorite $1500 and under speaker.
