Since 1998, when I built my first home theater PC, I have not bought a CD/DVD player. Bypassed the !d!otic SACD / DVD-A format wars ( again.. don't they ever learn? ) and stuck to my turntable, cartridge, phone preamp as the deliver of high resolution music.
What makes me sad about Oppo is that they were finally getting there. Ditching the disc spinner and building an USB3 multi format Audio/Video DAC.
Using a laptop or Apple/Android tablet as the driver, keeping your recording in your local NAS or streaming it over the Internet. Using the Oppo as the renderer.
They were sooo close. I even emailed them two years about this but they were too wedded to the past. They could not give up their polycarbonate.
Sad. Oh, btw, I'm listening to my Oppo PM3s while I type this.
