In reply to Mark in St Paul. To answer your question from 2013, HDTracks claims the record labels that send them these digital releases do not give them any info most of the time. Strange then that AcousticSounds.com- while also very vague- will at least say when it's the same DSD from the original SACD process from 20 years ago, for instance. It's really very aggravating when there's this (probably) very high quality download and we can't know anything about it.

Sheffield did direct to disc recordings.

HDtracks doesn't seem one bit (pun intended) interested in provenance. I was recently looking at Sheffield Labs "The Harry James Sessions" and HDtracks gives you no clue about the 96/24 download except that it dates from 2013. A check of the Sheffield web site reveals that this compilation is "spectacularly remastered from analog disc originals." It's a needle drop! That's not bad in itself, in fact it could be great if the SQ matches my LP versions, but being the info is readily available why doesn't HDtracks pass it on to the customer?
