I understand and appreciate your comments but I find the journey of reproducing the "event" (as it was 'live') at/in one's home to be a dead end. Since I was not there, I have no idea what it should sound like, but only what it sounds like here. Plus, even if I was there, depending on where I sat, who was around me, my state of being... which venue, and so on will all impart to a great degree what one hears. Besides, I do not listen to Classical or Jazz - I listen to recorded amplified music and so, who knows what it should sound like, what it did sound like... ? So my goal is to make that as enjoyable as possible - to me, here, with my system and room. As such, I do not follow the idea of their being an absolute sound. Whose absolute? We each our own interpretation, valuation, appreciation... etc of what we hear and want to hear. I strive for happiness and engagement with my music - what that means to you might not be the same, and it is certainly fine to strive for something different.

]]>Interesting question. I can't say which is closer to the music, as that begs the question, "How should the (my) music sound?" I have no idea really, though each allowed me to enjoy my music quite immensely. But I think this is perhaps what you are looking for... the Sutherland is more relaxed and polite in ways that the Gold Note is more energetic and "exciting".... each does the music very well, especially so at the price, but each does it somewhat with a different persona.
]]>I am in the process of purchasing a new Phono amplifer and I am considering the Sutherland Duo or the Gold Note PH10. It looks like you have reviewed both favourable. Which one is closer to real music and which do you prefer?
Thanks
