CES 2006 - Part 2
After a delicious meal at Casa de Amore with as many of the PFO writers and friends we could corral, we invited everyone back to our place for drinks. And drinks it was―a fine bevy of single-malt scotches ranging from the reasonable ($60 a bottle) to the obscene ($350 a bottle). Alan Kafton and Albert Porter taking it all in...
...David MacPherson of Studio Electric, Bryan Gladstone, Larry Fisher, Greg Weaver, and Joe Cohen of the Lotus Group/Prana Wire enjoying an array of single malt scotches. The next day came a little too soon!
Peter Clark of Redpoint Audio. We like this guy... same name as our son... good stuff too!
Redpoint turntable. Ahhh, now that is analog!!
Hansen Audio's The Prince loudspeaker ($27,000 pair) where the Redpoint table did its thing.
VAC integrated amplifier used to drive the new Hansen speakers. Nice stuff Kevin!
The new Magnum Dynalab digital tuner in the Hansen room. Very cool, but still nothing to listen to on FM!
And here we found one of THE BEST sounding rooms at CES, the Kimber Kable isoMike demonstration. Using Kimber's recordings played back through a Genex Audio GX9000 w/DSD-BNC interface ($6800), Kimber Kable D-60 BNC-BNC ($1240), EMM Labs DAC8 MKIV ($7500), EMM Labs Switchman III ($3700), Pass Labs X350.5 ($19,000 for 2), Kimber Select KS-3038, Lipinski Sound L-707 Mastering Monitors (x 4 $9180) the music was so luscious and real that one could stay here forever.
Lipinski Sound Sub Amplifiers ($4780) with the rear channel Lipinski monitors.
Nordost featured their cable comparisons between the Baldur, Hemdall, Frey, and Tyr. Heard this at RMAF and their new stuff is very good. Good sounding room this year too. Liked the Eben speakers...
Sunday was spent re-visiting some rooms and saying our goodbyes. Bryan Gladstone, Carol Clark, Jonathan Tinn, and Dan Meinwald showing the weight and stress of CES. Glad the show is over. See ya next year! |
