Exclusive UK Importer: www.amplitune.co.uk NEWS RELEASE 8/7/10 Red Wine Audio, manufacturer of battery-powered purist hi-fi products, unveils the LFP-V Edition for all Red Wine Audio components. Featuring a new vacuum tube-stage and premium LiFePO4 (LFP) battery technology, the LFP-V Edition delivers a more lifelike musical presentation and has five times the battery cycle life compared to sealed lead-acid (SLA) batteries. The LFP-V Edition comes standard on all new orders and can be purchased as a factory-installed upgrade for existing customer units. The marriage of vacuum tubes and high-current battery power is now a reality. By their very nature, vacuum-tube stages are power hungry. As a result, battery power supplies are subject to deep discharge cycles—especially when users listen for extended periods of time. Unfortunately, SLA batteries do not do well with multiple deep discharge cycles, which over time shorten both maximum listening time and battery life. This is not the case with LFP technology. LFP battery technology changes the playing field," says Vinnie Rossi, Red Wine Audio's Owner. "We're the first company to combine tube richness and warmth, with a level of purity only LFP battery power can deliver, and make it available across a complete line of hi-fi products," adds Rossi. LiFePO4, a major advancement in battery technology LiFePO4 battery packs have much lower internal resistance (compared to SLA), which translates directly into better sound. "I was initially drawn to this technology for a many reasons such as reduced size and significantly longer lifespan. Then when I listened to it in our products, I was amazed by the how much better they sounded as well," says Rossi. It is their significantly increased energy density that is the real game changer. "Now I have a technology with more compact size and tremendous amounts of power. Enough power to run our new vacuum tube-stage off-the-grid for more than six hours," says Rossi. No other vendor combines the sonic advantages of both vacuum tubes and batteries for a complete line of hi-fi components. Benefits do not stop there. "Simply by flipping a switch, all Red Wine Audio LFP-V Edition components now offer continuous listening time, even while charging the battery pack," adds Rossi. Users can now choose to run ‘off-the-grid' for critical listening, or ‘listen and charge' for unlimited play time.

with Furutech! NEWS RELEASE 8/7/10 Chad Kassem's Acoustic Sounds has purchased audiophile industry leader Classic Records. "This is a big acquisition for Acoustic which will enable us to further increase our presence and reputation in the audiophile vinyl market worldwide," according to Kassem. Over the years, Classic Records consistently was able to license the top titles that audiophiles wanted. Since that momentous announcement of the RCA Living Stereo reissue series in January 1994, Acoustic Sounds has been an admirer and strong supporter of the quality products produced by Classic Records. Classic has always been innovative and has set new standards for sound quality. Hobson always pushed the envelope to improve Classic's products instead of just accepting the current standards. It is an honor to now own Classic, and I intend to continue to use the innovations that Classic pioneered and the high standards they established, said Kassem. Michael Hobson, who founded Classic Records in 1994, will continue in an advisory role to Acoustic Sounds to ensure a smooth transition. "Classic Records has always been driven by my desire to make the best sounding records possible, and to that end we have successfully innovated over the years such that we are now able to make an LP that sounds better than when we started 17 years ago. I have worked with Chad for over 20 years and have seen Acoustic Sounds grow into a powerhouse in the audiophile market. In many ways having Classic Records join the Acoustic Sounds empire is a logical progression and makes a lot of sense strategically. I am confident that Chad and Acoustic Sounds will carry on in the Classic tradition of the pursuit of sound excellence, and I am committed to making sure that our knowledge base and experience transfers completely, said Hobson. NEWS RELEASE 7/17/10 Magnetostat is a new reference line stage made by NAT standards – transformer coupled pure triode class A with absolute zero feedback circuit configuration. Military grade type 6N30P-DR output tube is used - representing high technology in vacuum tube manufacturing. Tubes are also N.O.S. (new old stock) grade and have high reliability. Construction of output tube 6N30P-DR is very robust also in mechanical domain – means there is no high level of micro phonic effect for negative influence to the sound reproduction. Hand crafted wide-bandwidth output transformer (custom designed for NAT) is used in this unit. Output transformer contains no less than 61 separate different material layers. Bandwidth is from 2.5Hz – 160,000Hz. That is extremely good result, for high direct current single ended transformer coupled operation mode. Total weight of transformer for one channel is approx. 18 lbs. Output has separate transformers for single ended and balanced operation! Absolute zero feedback concept is well known, also as the best solution for purity of sound reproduction, without negative influence from feedback circuit. There are no capacitors on direct, or indirect signal path. Attenuation is based on high reliability relay (pure silver with gold plated contacts) network that is computer controlled – there are 96 positions of attenuation, and always is only one (single) laboratory grade resistor in the signal path. Magnetostat is equipped with basic function remote control unit made from solid block of aluminum. Power supply section also speaks for itself. High capacity battery supply is used as the best solution for power section. The best SUPER – ENERGY (not standard serial) PANASONIC batteries with approx. 9 years of operation are used!! There are also separate voltage regulators for all additional (non signal path) stages. As such, sound quality is totally independent from line voltage instability, and influence of wide variety noise that could be coupled across. Also a second toroidal type transformer supplies the digital circuit, which controls non analog preamplifiers function. Quality of electronic components that is used inside Magnetostat is impressive - tubes by military and N.O.S. grade standard, 0.1% Vishay resistors, high quality transformer core, electrolytic capacitors for 105 °C of working temperature, gold plated Teflon isolated connectors, pure silver input wiring… North American M.S.R.P.: $17,500
Contact information: NEWS RELEASE 7/17/10 Dynamic Contrasts, LLC, a small engineering company specializing in vibration management products, announced the release of its flagship RTS performance-oriented racking system. Although its design appears to be simple albeit unique, with 7 years of research and development and several patent pending features, the RTS is no ordinary racking system. Rather the RTS is quite possibly the missing link for perhaps every sector of the entertainment industry utilizing vibration-sensitive components. "The RTS may look simple enough but to the best of our knowledge it's the most extreme form of proper vibration management ever made available for commercial and private use," says John Stehno, president of Dynamic Contrasts. "The RTS pulverizes multiple times over that low-performance limiting glass ceiling that has plagued every last audio and video system until now. We fully expect the RTS to be the single biggest performance impact the entertainment industry will ever encounter, and by a very wide margin." Over the past few decades the industry has released a small host of high resolution formats, surround sound configurations, certifications, noise reduction systems, and other electronic innovations that many times were accompanied with the assurance of producing lifelike performance. However, it's no secret that even today's best audio and video playback systems are still unable to capture the vast majority of the magic or believability of a live performance. According to Stehno, "The reason for this lack of performance advancement is simple; until now the industry has never seriously considered electronic components as vibration-sensitive instruments. As such the industry had no clue that vibrations induce far more harm than all other distortions and system shortcomings combined. These mechanical distortions have so crippled the industry's electronic component's intended precision and accuracy we speculate that until now perhaps only one-quarter of all information embedded in a given recording was processed." Stehno added, "Apart from curing the root cause of this failure, there is no other innovation or technological advancement that could ever break through this low performance glass ceiling. It would seem this fact has already been well established. By introducing one electronic innovation after another the industry sought to resolve only the effects but never the cause of these most severe mechanical distortions when all along a mechanical solution was required. This is precisely why every previous innovation could only provide a small incremental improvement at best. In other words, until now the foundation of any performance-oriented system has been completely overlooked. But when the right foundation is laid, every component's full potential is realized." Dynamic Contrasts' focus has been primarily high-end audio and video, but since vibrations make no distinction between amplified, recording, and playback signals, or between audio and video signals, Dynamic Contrasts fully expects the RTS to provide similar performance results for live concerts, recording studio sessions, and commercial movie theater sectors as well. "It is not only possible but probable that the RTS will significantly improve the quality of live amplified performances and recording studio sessions," says Stehno. "In fact, vibration distortions and their remedies are so universal that we anticipate the RTS' benefits to extend beyond just the entertainment industry. However, the performance improvements are never so easily apparent as by a simple listening or viewing demonstration." Dynamic Contrasts is already finalizing its first licensing agreement with one high-end audio manufacturer and anticipates more licensing opportunities as industry standards develop. For more information about the RTS, visit www.dynamic-contrasts.com NEWS RELEASE 7/7/10 World renowned loudspeaker company THIEL Audio (www.thielaudio.com) has announced that seven models from their award winning lineup have become available through Amazon.com for the US market. Designed and built in Israel, improvements to Morel's Octave Signature benefit from design techniques first seen in the company's reference Fat Lady loudspeakers, including the highly unusual concept of allowing the enclosure to ‘sing' with the music. By adopting an entirely empty cabinet with strategically placed partitions and no internal damping whatsoever, this new version provides an astonishing listening experience that delivers pure, deep bass and a massive soundstage with vibrant "life-like" performance at all volume levels. Morel's modular cabinet concept provides the listener with new "building-block" expandability options that allow easy whole system upgrading. Now the user who starts with the stylish, high-performance Octave Signature Bookshelf speakers for stereo sound can decide when to step up to the home theatre experience by adding matching subwoofers. The vertically designed subwoofers fit beautifully beneath the bookshelf monitors transforming them into floor-standing units. Authentic 2-channel listening experience begins with the Octave Signature Bookshelf by transforming them from a discrete bookshelf system into a true, 3-way floor-speaker system with the addition of the modular Octave Signature Subwoofer. The built-in passive network in the Octave Signature Subwoofer creates a seamless transition to the Octave Signature Bookshelf. The crossover is set at 150Hz releasing the Octave Signature Bookshelf speaker of the need to reproduce deep bass thus improving power handling and allowing the midrange to sound more transparent. The complete theatre system consists of a pair of the Octave Signature Bookshelf speakers with matching Octave Signature Subwoofers powered by Morel's external, high-powered, multi-function Signature Amp-2100 stereo/mono amplifier. The Octave Signature Centre channel speaker and Octave Signature Bookshelves used as rear monitors for a true, 5.1 home theatre system simply excels in performance and value. The heart of the Octave Signature Bookshelf and Centre is Morel's famous 5¼-inch bass/midrange driver, equipped with an enormous 3" voice coil inside of which is placed the magnet system. This unusually large voice coil configuration is three times larger than used in conventional drive units of this size. Bass output is therefore surprisingly deep and powerful, yet very articulate. The tweeter uses an Acuflex™ soft dome fitted with advanced high power neodymium magnets that contribute to its open and spacious sound, both on and off axis. NEWS RELEASE 6/21/10 Bryston LTD (www.bryston.com), builders of the world's finest audio electronics has announced the introduction of the BDP-1 digital music player, a companion to the company's award-winning BDA-1 DAC (digital-to-analog converter). The Bryston BDP-1's sole function is to give music aficionados the ability to enjoy their library of high-resolution digital music files (resolutions of up to 24-bit/192kHz are supported) residing on a USB storage device, which in turn is directly connected via standard USB cable or thumb drive to the BDP-1 digital music player. "The BDP-1's feature set is unique and we have found that it is most easily defined by clarifying what it does not do," stated Bryston's James Tanner. "The Bryston BDP-1 does not contain an internal DAC, a hard-drive, a streamer, a CD player/ripper, noisy fans or switching power supplies. The BDP-1 connects to an external DAC for playback through AES-EBU or BNC digital outputs. Quite simply, the BDP-1 is an ultra high-performance digital music player when connected to an external drive and DAC," said Tanner. The face of the ultra-stable Linux-based BDP-1 is adorned with control buttons and a two-line display, making it a fully-functioning digital music player "right out of the box." Optionally, the BDP-1 can be connected to a home network using a router and Ethernet connection solely to enhance operability via network-enabled devices such as a computer, Apple® iPhone™ or iPad™, which can then provide access to playlists, album artwork, etc. In this scenario, the network is only used to interface with your music library—Bryston's design philosophy for the BDP-1 eliminates all of the challenges associated with streaming large high-resolution digital files over the home network. "The BDP-1 is a technically sophisticated digital music player incorporating the finest solid-state electronics," Tanner explained. "The BDP-1 has been designed to operate either all by itself or link up to your home network to be controlled by a variety of graphic interface devices," he added. "The BDP-1's graphic interface operates under 'open source' software protocols, ensuring long-term future proofing and compatibility with the widest possible range of user interface (UI) devices. We are also looking into developing our own web-based Music Player Daemon (MPD) client, which manipulates the database of digital files," Tanner concluded. The MSRP of the Bryston BDP-1 is expected to be $2100 USD with a delivery date later in 2010. Warranty on the BDP-1 is five years parts and labor. About Bryston: Bryston (www.bryston.com) first opened for business in 1962 as a manufacturer of blood analysis equipment, and was named (as an acronym) for its three founders, Tony Bauer, Stan Rybb, and John Stonborough. In 1968, NASA engineer John Russell, Sr. relocated himself and his family to Canada from the US and bought the company, where his son Chris set to work designing the first Bryston amplifier. The Pro 3 made its debut in 1973, and since that time, Bryston components have become legendary for their hand-assembled build quality, performance and reliability in both the pro audio and consumer audio market segments. Bryston amplifiers are utilized in some of the world's most renowned recording studios and owned by many discerning music industry professionals. Le Lab Mastering is the second studio in the world to install Grande Utopia EM speakers, Focal's flagship product. The studio opened in July 2009, this is their first mastering project for Celine Dion. The album was mastered by engineer Marc Theriault, and mixed by Denis Savage, who are also both live mix engineers that have worked with Dion for over 15 years and know her voice and the music in detail - Theriault is involved in mixing on-stage monitors and Dion's own in-ear mix, and Savage mixing 'front of house' sound. "I love the Grande Utopia EM speakers," says mastering engineer Theriault. "They are very transparent. Physically you forget that there are speakers in the room! They are absolutely linear from 20Hz up to 40kHz. When you have vocals, it's really in front of you: you think there's a center speaker there. It's really impressive, you close your eyes and the speakers are gone! Everybody that has listened to them has said the same remark." Le Lab features a host of top analog equipment including Dangerous Music, George Massenburg Labs, Shadow Hills, Millenia Media, Manley Labs, D.W. Fearn, Ampex and Studer tape decks, as well as an Oracle Delphi MK VI turntable for the vinyl enthusiast. "We do mostly analog mastering here at Le Lab," Theriault points out. "We have lots of analog gear, the Celine Dion project was converted to analog from 24/96 digital and then we mastered from that. The mix engineer, Denis Savage, gave me music stems and Celine Dion's vocal separately, so I had full control on her vocal, that way I could EQ the vocal without affecting the music. We used the Dangerous Music 2-Bus analog-summing amp to combine the all the stems." "The Grande Utopia speakers can also deliver a serious amount of dynamics, which is a plus when you do 'live show' mastering, because you can have the live show level experience to start with. We come from the live music side of the business, so we like SPL. If a client wants to hear something louder, we can do it without any problem. It can play very loud and very clean, it doesn't saturate. I have played engineer Bob Katz's 24/96k recording of the Space Shuttle lift off, and it sounds like you're there. I can get the same SPL from our system as if you are watching the lift-off," explains Theriault. Dion's new CD "Taking Chances" documents her record-breaking world tour with live versions of her greatest hits performed on stage, 25 songs in all, including an emotional finale of the ballad "My Heart Will Go On." The tracks on the CD were recorded during Boston and Montreal concerts in August 2008. The live recordings are also available as a DVD of the concert, and both are in either French or English. Besides the filmed event, the DVD also contains the 24-bit / 96kHz stereo versions of the songs, which is the "mastered" quality directly from Le Lab Mastering studios. NEWS RELEASE 5/10/10 Resolution Audio Video, known for offering the largest selection of high-value, high-end audio and video products in the Northwest, will host a rare public evening with renowned audio pioneer and guru Nelson Pass on May 20, 7 PM, at its spacious Seattle showroom at 5459 Leary Ave. NW, two doors south of Market Street, in beautiful downtown Ballard. Admission is free. Founder and chief of Pass Laboratories Nelson Pass is a legendary audio designer who has been creating innovative, great-sounding high-end products for more than 30 years. A holder of eight audio circuitry patents, he has "influenced an entire generation of designers," as audio magazine The Absolute Sound wrote in a profile, with ideas that "might seem like textbook orthodoxy today, but were radical at the time." "Nelson Pass night will be an exceptional event," said Resolution Audio Video owner Larry Israel. "I've already had inquires from people planning on flying into Seattle to attend." In product after product ("a string of innovative, often brilliant designs," as Stereophile magazine characterized them), Nelson Pass ingeniously realized a philosophy of design simplicity and extremely low distortion and noise, often combining the two in unique hybrid designs that brought listeners the best of both approaches. Pass' achievements include developing the first dynamically biased Class A amplifier circuit, developing a fully cascode audio power amplifier, and developing the Stasis amplifier in 1977. He helped popularize solid-state, single-ended Class A power amplifiers, and developed the very successful Aleph series of products. He also developed and patented the highly regarded Super-Symmetry™ circuit, which improves performance by precisely matching characteristics of the two halves of a balanced amplifier, achieving exceptionally low distortion and noise levels. Pass Labs, founded by Pass in 1991, markets the unique amplifiers, preamplifiers and speakers resulting from Nelson Pass' designs and leadership. It does so throughout the world, including through Resolution Audio Video, which carries Pass Labs products. Recently, Pass Labs has begun to introduce a new generation of amplifiers and other high-performance audio products. Pass, himself, is somewhat shy in terms of personal appearances, making his evening at Resolution Audio Video a rare event. However, he is unusually generous in sharing his ideas and designs on www.passlabs.com the Pass Labs Web site. He is also a strong advocate for the do-it-yourself (DIY) audio community, and maintains www.passdiy.com, a DIY Web site packed with free schematics, information and plans. A rare exception among commercial product designers, Pass is also available online to individual audio hobbyists, "for which he is held in very high esteem" by the DIY community, according to Wikipedia. Free parking is available 100 feet south of Resolution Audio Video at Olsen's parking lot. Attendees should park first, then ask for a parking pass once inside Resolution Audio Video. About Resolution Audio Video Resolution Audio Video offers the finest audio and video components from around the world, as well as the largest selection of high-value, high-end products in the Northwest. Previously only specializing in physical-media based digital source equipment such as CD and DVD players, we have entered into the world of hard drive based systems with the MS-1 leading the way. The MS-1 is an IP based device which was designed to be operated wirelessly with the use of an iPhone or iPod Touch. Through your internet connection and wireless router, the MS-1 is designed as a nearly hands free unit. CD's are loaded automatically by simply inserting them into the disc drive. Once the disc has been completely copied to the 1TB hard drive which is capable of storing roughly 2800 CD's in FLAC format, the unit ejects the disc letting you know it has completed the transfer. Then, through the use of its network connection, the MS-1 begins to search out the artist info, album art and song list for the disc from the internet archives. Once the unit has compiled all of the necessary data, the newly imported disc is automatically added to the music library and is then searchable within the custom application available from the iTunes store for your iPhone or iPod touch which is used to control the unit. An extremely efficient and fast hard drive allows your music to be played back at the highest level of quality over one of the MS-1's (x2) USB outputs. By downloading the custom Cary Audio Design MS-1 application available from the iTunes store, you have complete wireless control of the MS-1 and its database. Simply launch the Cary Audio application and within seconds you can begin searching your entire music library with the swipe of a finger. With a few, simple screen touches, you can search you entire music collection by artist, album, song or genre. Never before has your music library been this easily accessible. Also included within the MS-1 is SHOUTcast™ internet radio capability. This gives you the ability to stream any one of thousands of internet radio stations made available through the SHOUTcast™ internet radio technology. To take the performance of the MS-1 to the next level, the unit has been designed to be paired with the Xciter Series USB digital to analog converter. By outputting the raw digital audio stream of the MS-1's hard drive to the Xciter DAC over USB, you are ensuring the absolute highest level of data transfer and digital to analog conversion available from separates costing several times the price.

NEWS RELEASE 5/10/10 Bergmann Audio, a leading specialist in airbearing turntables and linear tracking airbearing tonearms, introduces into the U.S. market the exceptional Sindre Airbearing Turntable with Airbearing Tonearm. The Sindre is a high-end, airbearing turntable with a linear tracking airbearing tonearm built using as few parts as possible in a simple, timeless design, in keeping with Bergmann's "less is more" philosophy. Its luminous, 8.8-pound acrylic platter floats on a thin film of air, and is centered by a steel spindle in a low-fiction, vibration-muffling polymer housing. The air supply is noiseless, and Sindre is extremely easy to operate and adjust. Why Air? Bergmann has found its airbearing technology to be superior to other bearing solutions in important ways. For example, the airbearing is frictionless, reducing bearing noise to a minimum and yielding exceptional speed stability. The airbearing tonearm also glides frictionless, its only contact with the turntable being through the stylus tip and the wire of the tonearm. The bearings' unique friction-freedom expresses itself through an emotionally engaging musical reproduction in which nuances and details are natural parts of a transparent and vivid acoustic image, with an unexpectedly effective bass response. The Sindre's air bearing consists of two aluminum discs between which a pumped air supply creates a thin, frictionless film of air. The belt-driven platter rests on a 7-lb. aluminum subplatter, and both reside atop a massive plinth comprising three layers of solid fiber board. The plinth stabilizes the tonearm, and rests on three adjustable spikes for easy leveling. The spikes provide the smallest contact surface possible to prevent substructure vibrations from reaching the turntable. The tonearm is made of a very hard aluminum alloy. It consists of a long fixed air pipe with small vents that create a frictionless film of air on which the pipe gently floats. The arm tube is made of carbon fiber and mounted on this sliding pipe. The head shell, made with the same hard alloy as the rest of the tonearm, is parallel with the sliding pipe, which results in a perfect azimuth. The internal wire is twisted in one piece from clips to plugs to minimize soldering along the sensitive signal path. The tonearm includes an adjustment for the Vertical Tracking Angle (VTA), and another for horizontally adjusting the air pipe, which is independent of the plinth. The Sindre Airbearing Turntable with Airbearing Tonearm is available now from authorized dealers at a suggested price of $21,000 (U.S. MSRP). About Bergman Bergmann Audio is a Danish manufacturer specializing in airbearing turntables and linear tracking airbearing tonearms. Every part is handcrafted in Denmark to optimize the airbearing principle, and achieve the exceptional sound and timeless designs for which Bergmann is known. NEWS RELEASE 5/10/10 Aaudio Imports, a leading supplier of world class high-end audio products, introduces into the U.S. market the revolutionary Aelius, a new high-performance push-pull hybrid monoblock power amplifier by Ypsilon of Greece, and the latest addition to Ypsilon's broad line of amplification products. Capable of driving any loudspeaker, the Aelius is a remarkable product using an outstanding hybrid design that combines the sonic purity of single-ended triode (SET) amplification with the power of push-pull amplification, all with unmatched build quality. SET amplifiers help instruments and voices retain their natural presence, making listeners feel they are hearing real music played by real people. Music flows in a way that happens only in live unamplified performances. Operating in Class A, where current flows independently of the audio signal, they deliver a sound that makes it easier to feel music's inherent drama and momentum. SET amps are best at relatively low wattages, and with loudspeakers having very even impedance curves. Push-pull amplifiers tend to be better at low frequencies and operate better at higher power levels. However, their sound tends to be not as convincingly natural. Ypsilon's solution elegantly combines the two approaches in a way that avoids each one's limitations. The Aelius delivers more power, drive and transparency than either style could independently, while retaining a sense of musical involvement and music's natural flow. With only two gain stages, tube input and rectification, and a metal–oxide semiconductor field-effect transistor (MOSFET) output stage, the Aelius achieves all-valve SET amplification with significant power, enough gain, low distortion, and a sufficient output impedance. It provides a tonal palette of immense width, producing clear, undistorted music that brings listeners as close as possible to the actual music event. The Aelius' monoblock configuration uses a Siemens C3g valve in the input stage and a 6CA4/EZ81 rectifier tube. It produces 220 watts/channel into 8 Ohm, 380 watts/channel into 4 ohms, and 500 watts/channel into 2 ohms for almost endless power The Aelius can be integrated into any audio system, regardless of speaker impedance or cable length. It includes a balanced/unbalanced switch and an easily accessible ground/lift switch on the rear panel.el. The Aelius Push-Pull Hybrid Monoblock Power Amplifier is available now from authorized Aaudio Imports dealers at a suggested price of $34,000/pair (U.S. MSRP). NEWS RELEASE 4/26/10 Morel, a leading manufacturer of high-end loudspeakers, is pleased to introduce a new level of refinement in floor-standing loudspeakers with the company's most advanced home product to date–the fat lady. The fat lady project represents a journey of discovery for Morel lasting more than three and half years. The goal of this project was to develop not only a true high-end loudspeaker, but to use that knowledge to introduce a new philosophy and direction for the company. The fat lady cabinet is truly unique, borrowing technology from Formula 1 race cars in that it is fashioned from carbon fibre composite. The extreme flexibility of this material enabled the designers to produce the curves that served the acoustic sound quality objectives while giving the speaker its sensuous signature profile. Void of straight lines, the curved cabinet resembles a musical instrument, enabling the fat lady to go without the use of internal damping prevalent in conventional speaker systems. By means of this calculated design, the fat lady cabinet is allowed to vibrate with the drive units and use this energy as part of the reproduced sound. The magic, however, is in how the cabinet radiates music with the drive units yet stops immediately when the drive unit stops so there are no delayed resonances. The result is a speaker system that is so transparent and natural that it sounds as if there were no cabinet at all. The fat lady's drive unit line up consists of: High frequencies are handled by a high-end Supreme™ tweeter featuring a 1.1" (28mm) hand-coated Acuflex™ soft dome, and fitted with an underhung voice coil. Midrange frequencies are managed by a specifically designed 6" drive unit fitted with a 3-inch, underhung voice coil featuring Morel's EVC™ (External Voice Coil) technology, and a carbon fibre/Rohacell sandwich cone. Bass is comprised of two 9" units, each fitted with a 3" External Voice Coil (EVC™) technology, and a carbon fibre/Rohacell sandwich cone. The fat lady is a technical tour de force incorporating many innovative design solutions. It has already received favourable reviews in markets worldwide, and taken top honours for the 2009 CES Design and Engineering Innovation. The true test of a loudspeaker is to listen to it. Auditioning the fat lady promises to be an exciting experience. As they say: "It's not over 'til the fat lady sings." For more information, visit www.morelhifi.com or call +972 8 930 1161. In the US call Morel America toll-free at 877-morel-11 Retail price per pair: $32,000 USD NEWS RELEASE 4/26/10 Channel D, developers of innovative audio software solutions for Apple® Macintosh computers—including the acclaimed audiophile-quality Pure Vinyl software, a high-resolution vinyl transcription, archiving and editing program—recently introduced a new high-resolution digital audio playback software program for Apple iTunes®. Pure Music, based on Channel D's acclaimed Pure Vinyl audio playback engine, automatically docks with Apple's free iTunes® digital jukebox software to handle music playback, using a high-resolution playback engine. iTunes acts as the database and playlist organizer; Pure Music leverages the user's familiarity of iTunes functions such as track selection, music library navigation, and more. When combined with a high-resolution sound card or DAC, Pure Music delivers dynamic and detailed audio playback. The advantages of using Pure Music are: Automatic sample rate switching (16 or 24 bits, 44.1 to 192 kHz) Gapless track playback and Memory Play Dithered Volume Control 64-bit Adjustable Subwoofer Crossover According to Robert Robinson, Channel D's Director of Engineering, "Pure Music offers many benefits over iTunes alone. Foremost, iTunes plays all audio tracks at the sample rate detected when launched. If this were 44.1kHz (CD quality), then all high resolution audio tracks (up to 192kHz/24-bit, which can be purchased and downloaded on the Internet) would be downsampled and played in CD format, diminishing playback quality. On the other hand, Pure Music will automatically play high-resolution audio tracks at their native sample rate (if supported by the connected sound card or DAC). This capability was previously only available in costly ($995) audio playback software, but now is available with Pure Music for just $129.00." Pure Music goes even further than previous player software, offering advanced features such as Memory Play, real-time high resolution upsampling of CD tracks, a 64-bit internal signal path, dithered volume control, subwoofer crossover, multichannel support, audio processing plug-ins, CoreAudio Hog Mode playback, high resolution audio streaming, precision signal metering, reverse play, and more. Pure Music natively plays all iTunes-supported audio formats, including but not limited to Apple Lossless, AIFF, Wave, AAC and MP3. Pure Music is designed to accommodate changes in Apple's iTunes as that software continues to evolve. Through a proprietary high performance mechanism developed with the help of Channel D's 25 continuous years of in-house experience developing Macintosh software, Pure Music transparently monitors user commands to iTunes. This elegant design avoids needing to reverse engineer iTunes' library and playlist formats, insuring compatibility with future versions of iTunes. As far as the user is concerned, iTunes behaves normally via the Play/Pause, Skip, Shuffle, Volume controls, etc. and even via remote operation with an iPhone™ or iPod touch® using Apple's Remote application. However, the connection with iTunes stops there, because iTunes no longer plays the music. All audio is rendered and played via Pure Music's low CPU overhead, audiophile quality 64-bit resolution playback engine. (Note: 64-bit resolution audio is an entirely different thing from the 64-bit memory addressing now available in Apple's OS X operating system.) Robinson continues: "The many accolades from users in Internet forums regarding the audio playback quality of Pure Vinyl's Music Server feature has created a tremendous demand for the product. Accordingly, Pure Music was created to focus on the digital music playback features, for users not interested in the vinyl-oriented editing and recording features of Pure Vinyl." Visitors to www.channld.com can download a free, 15-day, unrestricted demo program to try before purchase. System requirements: Mac OSX 10.5 or 10.6. The full program can be purchased on the site for $129.00. About Channel D Channel D has created and delivered popular and innovative audio software solutions for Apple Macintosh computers since 1997, when they introduced the acclaimed Mac the Scope audio signal analyzer software. For the past several years, Channel D has focused on products aimed at professional audio analysis and audio enthusiasts, including Waavebox (audio signal generator), AudioLeak (equivalent audio loudness analyzer), and Pure Vinyl, first released in 2006. Channel D's Seta (Italian for silk) phono preamplifier product line provides a solid anchor point for Channel D's end-to-end product strategy, linking analog vinyl playback with high resolution, transparently true to analog, up to 192kHz/24-bit digital audio. Robert Robinson, founder of Channel D, was a research scientist and project manager at Bell Communications Research (originally part of AT&T Bell Laboratories) in New Jersey for over nine years. Included among his achievements there was designing and building one of the world's first electrochemical scanning tunneling microscopes, for examining the structure of matter at the atomic level, in the late 1980s at the forefront of what's now called nanotechnology. What Are You Doing? As Little As
Possible! But XLO is in an excellent position to get closer to… the sound of nothing. "We control the manufacturing of our own product, just as we've done for more than 15 years," enthuses XLO's president Allen Sung, "giving us 100 percent quality control backed with a lifetime warranty. We have the capacity, machining and engineering expertise to work the conductor and dielectric materials. We design and produce all our specialist connectors. The product is of such quality that it's supplied OEM to a surprising number of other brands." Reference-3 and Signature-3 interconnect and speaker cables are custom-drawn 99.99998% ("Six Nines") pure Laboratory Grade copper. Signature-3's higher specification calls for UPOCC 6N copper (Ultra Pure Ohno Continuous Casting process). Proprietary Field-Balanced™ winding – how each signal-bearing conductor is arrayed relative to the others – is optimized for the interactive relationship between current-controlled electromagnetic fields formed around a cable's conductors, and the electrostatic fields formed around its insulation when an audio or digital/video signal passes. Reference-3 and Signature-3 are designed with to minimize capacitive discharge effects. As current passes through insulated conductors capacitance effects store signal energy in the surrounding dielectric material that's either turned into heat or quickly released out of phase back into the signal path as soon as the polarity changes leading to signal cancellations, reduced low-level detail, smearing, and out-of-phase artifacts causing spurious sound or picture distortions! XLO reduces stored energy with low-mass dielectrics and the best materials with the minimum dielectric constant and the fastest "dump rate" – the faster the energy returns or dumps from the dielectric, the less distortion you hear. Even our hand-terminated connectors are direct-plated 24k gold with no shiny but poor-sounding nickel substrate: Nickel is ferrous and becomes magnetized when passing signal current. The magnetic field is modulated by the electrical signal and the connector retains a residual magnetic charge. Making our own connectors also allows XLO to ensure constant impedance from one end to the other.

The first product onto the Black Cat line will be a pure, 75 Ohm digital cable called Veloce - after the Italian word for "fast" "It's derived from my $250 (Stereovox) XV-2 design, which we discontinued after introducing the XV-Ultra late last year under the new brand marque Stereolab," said Sommovigo, designer for Stereolab cables. "As an entry-level digital cable, it's yet another giant slayer - a tightly controlled 75 Ohm Digital Cable Extraordinaire!" Sommovigo, who is best known for his digital cable designs beginning with the Illuminati cables of the 1990's, has also designed a fair selection of digital, analog and phono cables over the past 18 years, both under his own corporate monikers as well as for other companies. "Once we've established Veloce in the market, we're planning to introduce some Black Cat power cords, loudspeaker cables, and interconnects. All of these will share technology derived from our more advanced Stereolab cables, only in 'lite' form." The Veloce digital cable is slated to retail for $123.00 USD for 1.23 meters, and will not be available in any other length. Black Cat Cable will be introduced through a "hybrid-retail" sales model in the USA, being available for direct sale at Black Cat Cable's web site, as well as from their exclusive retailer, The Cable Company. As a result of this new sales model, which operates on very abbreviated margins, Veloce is priced much lower than it would have been through traditional industry sales models. "We chose The Cable Company because of our long standing relationship with Robert Stein. We go back together over 15 years, when The Cable Company was a retailer for Illuminati digital cables. The Cable Company is like family," shared Chris. The Veloce digital cable comes with a 60-Day Money Back Guarantee. When purchased from The Cable Company, customers also have the option to try the cable before they buy it through the use of their Cable Lending Library. Stereolab have also made an arrangement with The Cable Company to provide for a 100% trade-in value for Veloce when upgrading to the Stereolab XV-Ultra digital cable. Users will have the option of trading up during their first 365 days of ownership of the Veloce cable, truly extending the value of the offer. "It doesn't matter if you've purchased the Veloce direct from the Black Cat site or from The Cable Company," stated Sommovigo. "The 60 Day MBG and the offer to upgrade to the category-busting XV-Ultra is the same thanks to The Cable Company's exclusive Stereolab upgrade offer." Veloce is due to be released to the market in early April. Interested parties will be advised of the release via Black Cat Cable's website's newsletter. The Pangea Audio AC-14 power cable is specifically designed for audio/video source components such as preamplifiers, CD players, DVD/Blu-Ray players, DAC's, and other line-level electronics. These devices do not require the same large amount of current as receivers, power amplifiers, or AC line conditioners. The AC-14 provides more than enough current to source components while offering multiple shielding and other features that facilitate extremely clean and noise-free power. The AC-14 delivers superb performance and is priced well below competitive products. The AC-14 employs 14-awg 99.99% purity oxygen-free copper and a two-way multi-gauge geometry with isolated bass conductors optimized for A/V source components. Counter-spiraled conductors offer superior noise rejection, while the triple shielding provides RFI and EMI rejection while optimizing the isolation of sensitive source components. The AC-14's superior flexibility means easier installation and reduced physical stress on the chassis of the connected device. The AC-14 also uses rugged 24k gold-plated contacts that deliver superior electrical contact while resisting oxidation. Special two-shot molded connector bodies protect vital contact points for maximum current delivery and long life. Pangea AC-14 power cables are available now through authorized dealers and through their exclusive online/catalog retailer (www.audioadvisor.com). AC-14 cables range in price and size—from the 0.6 meter cable (MAP $19.99) to the 4 meter cable (MAP $59.99). However, all final design decisions are made only after intensive listening tests and comparisons with reference designs. NEWS RELEASE 2/13/10 Pangea Audio, delivering unprecedented value to the audiophile marketplace, has announced the introduction of a premium quality high current AC power cable called the AC-9. The Pangea Audio AC-9 has been designed specifically to deliver the high current required by audiophile devices such as power amplifiers, powered subwoofers and high-current-demanding AC line conditioners. The AC-9's combination of superior materials, advanced geometry, and noise-fighting shields helps to deliver the best possible performance from connected components at a cost far below competitive products. Because of their high-current requirements, power amplifiers benefit from heavier gauge conductors than those available in most traditional power cables. Although the AC-9 uses large-diameter conductors, it has also been designed to offer greater flexibility than other heavy-duty power cables, presenting less strain on the device's chassis while also being easier to work with in confined spaces. When More is Actually Less Until now, upgrade power cable products have been designed according to a 'more is better' philosophy, leading manufacturers to increase the diameter of the conductor and the thickness of the insulation in an attempt to improve performance, but at the expense of flexibility. The resulting thick, noncompliant cables put a severe strain on the chassis of connected components. Heavy, inflexible cables can also reduce the effectiveness of component isolation and suspension systems. Because power amplifiers do benefit from heavier gauge conductors, the AC-9 is thicker than its smaller sibling, the AC-14. However, it is only as thick as it needs to be for maximum performance, and it is still more flexible than competitive products. Pangea AC-9 power cables are available now through authorized dealers and through their exclusive online/catalog retailer (www.audioadvisor.com). AC-9 cables range in price and size—from the 0.6 meter cable (MAP $39.99) to the 3.0 meter cable (MAP $99.99). NEWS RELEASE 1/30/10 ZVOX, the company that pioneered the concept of all-in-one home theater systems, has introduced three models featuring both optical and coaxial digital inputs as well as traditional analog inputs: the ZVOX 575 HSD, $749.99; the ZVOX 550 HSD, $449.99; and the ZVOX 430 HSD, $449.99. "Recently, several TV manufacturers introduced new models that do not include traditional analog audio output jacks, so the only way to get sound from the TV to your ZVOX sound bar is with a digital connection" says ZVOX founder Tom Hannaher. "Since we strongly believe that the consumer prefers to use the TV as the input switching center rather than the sound system, it makes sense for us to offer ZVOX systems with digital inputs." Each new model includes analog, optical digital and coaxial digital inputs, as well as Dolby Digital® decoding circuitry. The 575 HSD and 550 HSD are both "Z-Base systems," designed so that the consumer can place a TV directly on top of the sound system. The 430 HSD is a slim, wall-mountable sound bar. All three systems use real wood (MDF) cabinets and include built-in powered subwoofers and ZVOX's acclaimed PhaseCue™ virtual surround sound system. ZVOX products have received Editor's Choice Awards from Sound & Vision, Home Theater and E-Gear magazines. The ZVOX 575 was named a "Best Audio Product of 2009" by Steve Guttenberg of CNET. About ZVOX Audio ZVOX Audio is a collaboration of long-time industry veterans Tom Hannaher and Winslow Burhoe. Tom worked in marketing at Best Buy, Advent Corporation, Tweeter and Cambridge SoundWorks. Winslow worked at AR, KLH, Genesis, Nuance and Boston Acoustics – and was founder of EPI Loudspeakers. ZVOX Audio is dedicated to designing and manufacturing audio products that combine high sound quality, compact size, simplicity of use, and affordability. "Besides naturalness and neutrality characteristics we would expect from such type of amp, here we also experience a not so common meteoric sound, not to mention an extraordinary transient response. We also appreciate here undistorted dynamic peaks in spite of modest power output (merits go to over sized power supply circuit)." "But what really strikes me and leave me enthusiastic is the sound stage, so life real. I would tend to give merits in this case to the push pull tube configuration, not forgetting, at the same time those interstage transformers." "Needless to say that the most moving experiences will come when listening to voice, which will allow us appreciate timbral accuracy and neutrality along with stunning physical sound presence."
