We are proud to announce the official 11 November, 2009 release of the 1008 Phono Preamplifier (MSRP US$12,000). The 1008 is the junior sibling to Boulder's $33,500 2008 Phono Preamplifier, widely acknowledged as the world's finest phono stage by no small margin. Multiple technical features make the 1008 a brilliant performer at nearly 1/3 the price of the 2008: Multiple Equalization Curves. Just as in the 2008, the 1008 features three additional EQ curves in addition to the standard RIAA curve, each selectable via a front panel button: FFRR, Columbia, and EMI. These equalization curves enable correct and accurate playback of LP records made prior to 1954. An option on the 2008, these EQ curves are included as standard in the 1008. Simple, Single Chassis Design. All electronics and features are contained within a single, beautifully machined aluminum chassis. +6 dB Greater Gain for MC Cartridges. Research into the thermal properties of electronics has resulted in greater gain for low output moving coil cartridges with no increase in the noise floor of the gain circuit. 985 Gain Stage. The 1008 uses the 985 gain stage, a discrete initial gain stage for significantly reduced distortion and noise. All 985 circuitry is housed in a massive aluminum housing and then potted in a proprietary epoxy resin for thermal stability and increased reliability. Fully Balanced, Dual Mono Construction. Inputs and outputs are high quality, fully-balanced connections and all audio circuitry is dual mono for total isolation of left and right channels. Dual Inputs and Outputs. Two inputs per channel are available for connecting multiple tonearms, each with customizable “personality cards” which can be tailored for optimal loading of specific phono cartridges. Additional Features: Other features include a switchable 20 Hz low cut filter, selectable true mono mode for monaural recordings played on a stereo cartridge and extensive magnetic shielding of the main power transformer to eliminate noise in the audio stages. NEWS RELEASE 11/12/09 The Bowers & Wilkins Zeppelin gave iPod® users the ability to listen to music from a portable device in hi-fi quality for the first time. The MM-1 desktop speaker similarly breaks new ground, but for computers. Desk-bound entertainment fans will finally get the audio performance their collection deserves. Whether it's music, video or games, the MM-1's performance will revolutionize the experience. Designed by the same acoustic engineering team that developed Zeppelin and the high-end 800 Series speakers used in Abbey Road Studios, the MM-1 draws on close to five decades of experience in audio excellence. Unlike many desktop solutions, the MM-1 is a serious hi-fi speaker: a full range, active, near field monitor, with two separate drive units including an aluminum dome tweeter for a refined treble performance. Key proprietary Bowers & Wilkins technologies such as Nautilus™ Tube Loaded tweeters find their way into a speaker of this type for the first time. And new DSP technologies such as Bowers & Wilkins' own Dynamic EQ, maximizes bass output, and allows the MM-1 to provide full range sound without the need to resort to a subwoofer. The MM-1 also has advantages for private listening, thanks to its high-quality headphone output. Audio from a computer passes through the MM-1's DSP and into its headphone socket to produce a sound that's a dramatic improvement over a standard PC or Mac headphone output. Design, build and materials are very much up to the premium quality Bowers & Wilkins' demanding customers are accustomed to. The MM-1 itself is an incredibly attractive, yet discreet piece of engineering, while the choice of materials and build quality are of class-leading quality. User-friendly features such as the integral cable management system make for a remarkable package, and the MM-1 comes supplied with a pebble remote control that provides intuitive control over the speaker, and also works within iTunes® and Windows Media Player on a Mac or PC. At work, at play or simply taking a break, the MM-1 provides you with the kind of sound that your digital media collection deserves. Bowers & Wilkins MM-1 is available from January 2010. For those of you in the US, as you know, tonight is Halloween, supposedly the scariest night of the year. It is safe to assume that not much scares us anymore, except perhaps Sonics! And, of course, as you may already know, MA has some pretty SCARY SONICS!! Recently, I returned from RMAF, the wonderful Rocky Mountain Audio Festival in Denver, Colorado where MA exhibited with Chris Sommovigo of The Signal Collection. Chris brought two fantastic sets of speakers, the DAVONE from Denmark (aren`t they beautiful?!) and the VELOCE speakers from Gemme Audio in Canada. He also brought his own beloved "Sigfried" vacuum tube amp by David Berning, which knocked everyone out! The sound in our room was just what we were hoping for: elegant, fast and very neutral! The speakers were the right size for the room and performed extremely well. You can read a bit about us on the Stereophile Blog here: http://blog.stereophile.com/rmaf2009/small_and_great/ and here on Positive Feedback Online as well: http://www.positive-feedback.com/Issue45/rmaf09.htm At the show, I was really excited to introduce our first three DVD-ROM discs with High Resolution WAV files. Two of them were of the very popular Sera Una Noche recordings: "Sera una Noche/M052A-HR" (with 24bit/96kHz WAV files) and "La Segunda/M062A-HR" (with 24 bit/176.4 kHz WAV files). The third one we played was "Opening/M081A-HR" by the Mathias Landaeus Trio from Sweden. This newest jazz release is available either as a normal Red Book CD M081A, or a special double disc package which also contains the DVD-ROM with both 24bit/176.4 kHz WAV and 88.2 kHz FLAC High Resolution files for those who cannot play 176.4 kHz just yet... "Opening" was recorded on the amazing KORG MR-1000 portable DSD recorder at the ultra high 5.6 MHz sampling rate, TWICE (!!) that of SACD. MA is the only audiophile label recording at that sampling rate. At the show, I demonstrated tracks from this new recording with the original 5.6 MHz DSD files. The reaction was very favorable as the sound was like nothing anyone had ever heard before. We also played "Out of Time and Country/M080A", a new and very unique project involving Swedish folk singer Susanne Rosenberg with a trio of French musicians, all experts in Medieval music performance. Susanne sings ethereally while accompanied by "organetto" portable organ, tambura, medieval fiddle and various exotic percussion instruments. "Out of Time and Country" was also recorded on the Korg MR-1000 portable DSD Recorder at 5.6 MHz in a small cathedral in the southern French village of Nevian. MA will be releasing the HiRez WAV file DVD-ROM of this project in the coming months. Just so there is absolutely no confusion, the DVD-ROM discs contain High Resolution Data WAV (and 88.2 FLAC in case of M081A) files that are intended for playback on Computer Audio systems and Hi End music servers. Listening to them is like listening to the master tapes (!) although present High Definition digital recording is not tape based at all, but either Hard Drive or Memory oriented. The sound is SO much better than Red Book CDs, high resolution being smoother, more relaxed, deeper and wider in imaging. THIS is where TRUE Hi End music appreciation and playback is going and MA is proud to be one of the first labels to issue HiRez WAV files to music fans throughout the world! Our Free DVD-R HiRez Sample Offer For those that order 3 or more discs from the MA site, we will include a free DVD-R sampler of 4 (four) HiRez WAV file tracks. For those that have the PS Audio "Perfect Wave Transport" or "Boulder 1021 Disc Player" please let us know so that we may custom burn the disc to play on those players. The sampler will include 88.2 kHz, 96kHz, 176.4 kHz WAV files and maybe even some 2.8 MHz DSD files! This offer is good until the end of 2009. We look forward to hearing from you and hope you enjoy our newest projects! todd at ma NEWS RELEASE 11/1/09 High-End Audio for the Home Theater - STUDIO ELECTRIC has introduced The NEW T4 "ultimate in-wall™" An in-wall loudspeaker featuring adjustable toe-in and an optional DSP based low frequency room tuning unit. NEWS RELEASE 10/24/09 Role Audio is offering environmentally and health friendly, formaldehyde free loudspeakers as options for its full line of eight critically acclaimed small loudspeakers. Over the long term, Role Audio will replace all standard loudspeakers with formaldehyde free eco-friendly loudspeakers. Formaldehyde, which is used to manufacture most plywoods and medium density fiberboards (MDFs), is an allergen and a carcinogen. It is a volatile organic compound (VOC) which vaporizes under normal conditions into the environment. Formaldehyde residues are major components of smog and thus have a broad impact on health. Because of its ubiquity, volatility, and toxicity, formaldehyde is a serious threat to human and environmental health. In finished lumber products – such as loudspeakers—formaldehyde, paints, and glues which are VOCs can release vapors (off-gas) into indoor air. This is a significant and growing concern for consumers who want healthy products in their homes and in their working and leisure environments. Our "green" loudspeakers are manufactured from formaldehyde free plywoods, and from MDFs that use no urea or formaldehyde in the manufacturing process. They are assembled with non toxic glues, and finished water borne coatings that are certified by the Greenguard Environmental institute. The grills are manufactured from formaldehyde free MDF, non-toxic glues, and nylon fabrics. Role Audio has always been green. The driving principle for Role Audio has always been to use the least amount of drivers, crossover parts, and materials coupled with the latest loudspeaker design technology to deliver big speaker performance from the smallest possible cabinet designs. We have always used non-toxic glues, non-toxic stains, and packaging made from recycled materials in our products. Small speakers require less energy, paints, finishes, and lumber to manufacture. They also require less energy and packaging materials to ship. Our dedication to manufacturing small, low-toxicity loudspeakers has established Role Audio as one of the greenest loudspeaker companies. All things being equal, our standard small loudspeakers present significantly less risk of off-gas and a significantly smaller carbon foot print than larger loudspeakers. Nevertheless, with the increasing use of loudspeakers in nearfield and more intimate situations, and the broader problem of global environmental pollution, off-gassing has become a very important health and environmental issue. It is this issue that we seek to address in transitioning to manufacturing only formaldehyde free loudspeakers. While the revolution in the miniaturization of high end electronics is proceeding at a rapid pace, progress in the miniaturization of high end loudspeakers which will reduce the impact of loudspeaker manufacturing on the global environment lags behind. Role Audio has been at the forefront of the trend to deliver the best performance in the smallest possible loudspeaker designs. We believe our small potent loudspeakers when used by themselves or in combination with small subwoofers are compelling alternatives to many large loudspeakers. The transition to producing exclusively green loudspeakers is a formidable challenge, but once again we are at the forefront of a very important and vital change.

Travis Waller, CEO of HeadRoom, recently stated in a post to head-fi.org, an online headphone enthusiast community: ..."As we redesigned our site, we looked to strike a balance of having customers still recognize HeadRoom; being e-commerce friendly and inviting to anyone who comes to our site and wants to buy personal audio gear; and, still appealing to enthusiasts who want to sink their teeth into some beefy technical commentary. We think that newbies and experts alike will appreciate the easy-to-navigate menus, product information readily at hand, and enhanced sorting options, along with many other great new features. You'll see new brands like Sony, Skullcandy, Monster and Boston Acoustics, and new product categories like iPod/iPhone docks and headsets, coming on board at the time of the launch. With internal 176.4 KHz upsampling data transfer, selectable RAM buffer clock retiming and both 1024 and 4096 tap length filtering, the RED earns its reference status in the Chord range. Starting on the outside the RED features the Chord trademark design and is manufactured from solid aluminum giving a rigid support structure for the CD mechanism. The Mk II version now includes a lens in the CD dome giving a view of the loaded disc. The front panel design incorporates ball bearing push button control for the commonly used functions and a dual display showing CD status on one side and input, buffer and frequency information on the other. Uniquely the CD mechanism sits at 45 degrees to allow front access even if placed on a stand or in a rack. Access to the CD is at the touch of a button operating a solenoid controlled fluid damped door. At the rear connections are made via gold plated phono or BNC coax, plastic optical fiber or balanced XLR style connectors. Internally the latest CD Pro 2 mechanism from Philips is re-clocked using a highly accurate crystal oscillator then the synchronized data is fed to the upsampling and filtering electronics. In the Mk II an 18,000 tap length WTA filter, (upgraded from the original 4096), is used to minimize the transient timing errors and reconstruct the digital data to either 44.1, 88.2 or 176.4 KHz sampling frequencies. This data is fed to the rear XLR and optical output connectors and also via a dual data bus to the digital to analogue conversion electronics. Now based on the QBD76, (originally DAC64), the digital signal is converted from 176.4KHz to analogue audio using 18,000 tap filtering and 76 bit digital signal processing core. This is followed by 64th bit 7th order noise shaping, 2048 times oversampling rates and improved pulse width modulated elements. This gives much better measured performance. better detail resolution with a smoother more focused sound quality. The DAC also features RAM buffer technology that sequentially takes in all the data, re-times it, then sends it out giving jitter free operation. Digital data from other sources can also be fed into the RED via the optical or AES balanced XLR connections. All of the above innovations are implemented in Field Programmable Gate Arrays that can be reprogrammed by simply changing the EPROM memory chip, thus future proofing is assured. The RED Reference Mk II retains its status as a truly unique product. As a standalone CD player it is able to deliver the best reference CD playback. The addition of digital inputs and outputs also gives it the ability to act as both a CD transport and DAC for other audio components making it completely versatile. US Retail price is $24,900. NEWS RELEASE 10/14/09 Chord produces another world's first technology. Chord's QBD76 DAC is a break-through product offering you the opportunity to sell the world's best DAC. With USB and digital Bluetooth inputs this DAC works with all modern formats. The best Burr Brown DAC chips contain 30,000 "logic gates" (which allow the designer to control the D to A Conversion process), however the QBD contains 1,250,000 logic gates, giving Chord's designers 40 times the development capability and allowing them to optimize literally every aspect of the D to A Conversion process. In addition a new digital PLL has completely eliminated data related jitter and driven random jitter to a previously undreamt of level of less than 3pS cycle to cycle. As a result the QBD76 resolves 40dB more data than the best DAC chips on the market and delivers a stunning sonic performance unmatched by any other DAC on the planet. "This is the very best DAC I've heard to date... it's obvious that Chord's new QBD76 is in a gang of one. Dramatically musical yet devastatingly revealing sound makes this unique product the definitive digital to analogue convertor right now." - Hi-Fi World, Sept. 2008 Remember, although the DAC64 was Stereophile's 2007 Product of the Year, and rated Stereophile A+ Recommended Component in 2007, it is actually eight year old technology! Imagine the improvements in digital technology over the past eight years. Better yet, don't imagine, if you haven't heard the QBD76 ask to hear one today! For further information, please visit http://www.diyaudiocable.com/ NEWS RELEASE 9/24/09 Ultralink/XLO Products, Inc., an innovative and prolific manufacturer of award-winning audio and video interconnects, cables and AC power products, display the full line of XLO cables at the 2010 Rocky Mountain Audio Fest, Marriott Tech Center in Denver October 2nd through the 4th. XLO audio cables, long preferred by discriminating audio enthusiasts everywhere, sound airy, fast and neutral; ideal companions for tube systems of every stripe. They're fabricated with the best materials available using leading-edge technologies, much of the work done in-house at our Ontario, California facility. A Nice Turn of Phase Looking at XLO Reference-3 or Signature-3 cables you can easily see the winding geometry. We use large numbers of individually-insulated, relatively small-diameter wires arrayed in surface-only geometries -- or proprietary Litz configurations -- that yield the most desirable phase characteristics. These Integrated Field-Balanced™ surface/diving winding techniques minimize frequency-related phase-shift by reducing the thickness of each conductor grouping and the diameter of each individual wire within to no more than twice the penetration depth--the depth signal passes through the wire--of the highest audio frequency. This way all frequencies pass through the entire thickness of the wire avoiding dreaded signal-layer stratification. Peering more closely, notice the controlled "quasi-random" surface/diving wind of each wire bundle. That ensures no wire has what can be called a "normal" position within the grouping thus avoiding any "normal" phase-shift characteristics. Topologically speaking the cable has no surface or center and so frequency-related phase shift is effectively canceled! Additionally very low capacitance and inductance allows XLO cables to work better with a wider number of components. Things Are Never What They Seem Take XLO connectors: They look hefty but they're actually engineered for very low mass. The connectors aren't shiny because we use direct-plating without a jewelry-finish nickel substrate to ruin the sound. A tremendous amount of hand labor goes into terminating XLO cables; there's only so much you can do on a machine, then experienced hands take over. That's also why XLO cables are available in custom lengths. The numbers tell us the best insulation/dielectric is air itself, but the next best material is DuPont™ Teflon® which we use in XLO. But we go a step further and use as little Teflon as possible while still maintaining the cable's mechanical integrity. We reduce Teflon's mass even further by air-injecting and puffing up the "former straws" within the cable, another reason they sound… like nothing at all! Learn more at http://www.xloelectric.com. The Critics Speak
"[XLO Signature-3s are] beautifully crafted … exquisitely finished … XLO is one
of the rare high-end cable manufacturers that machines and engineers conductor
and dielectric materials in house ... They raised the bar … music emerged more
perfectly formed and more naturally complete ... instruments now floated free in
front and behind the speakers … When I played Rosanne Cash's superb 10 Song Demo
CD, I heard subtle keyboard touches and how the reverberation was used to
flatter Cash's vocals. I swear I've never heard that CD sound so natural
before."
"The XLO Signature-3 cables are great for high-end
audio systems. They represent good value and provide all-around excellent sound.
Workmanship and material qualities are very good (and are made in the USA).
Performance was best when the entire system was wired with the Signature-3's …
They will let you hear through to the music and allow your source and
amplification components to reveal the music the best they can, and that's about
all you can ask for from a set of cables. Highly recommended…" Visit XLOElectric.com's Download page to find out more! XLO… Sounds Like Nothing At All! Retail prices start at $290 for Reference-3 half meter audio pair and $590 for Signature-3 half meter audio pair. About XLO Products, Inc. Ultralink/XLO Products Inc., headquartered in Ontario, California is an industry-leading manufacturer of high-performance audio and video cables and UltraPower™ AC power products, Canada's market share leader in the field. In early 2002 Ultralink Products Inc. acquired XLO Electric Co., Inc. a well-known brand of audiophile reference cables and interconnects. Ultralink also introduced the elegant "Engineering Truth" Argentum Acoustics™ line of cables and accessories. Ultralink is a member of PARA, CEDIA and the CEA. For more information on Ultralink/XLO and their product brands call (909) 947-6960 or find them at www.ultralinkproducts.com or learn more about XLO at www.xloelectric.com and Argentum Acoustics at www.argentumacoustics.com. NEWS RELEASE 9/24/09 Ultralink/XLO Products, Inc., an innovative and prolific manufacturer of award-winning audio and video interconnects, cables and AC power products, display the full line of Argentum Acoustics® cables at the 2010 Rocky Mountain Audio Fest, Marriott Tech Center in Denver October 2nd through the 4th.. Lexus or Jaguar, the Song Stays the Same Argentum Acoustics cables are discrete but handsome in all-black jackets and elegant industrial design connectors. The Lexus look is no accident; they appear especially tasteful in all-Argentum cabled systems. They're for those of us who prefer Lexus-level elegance and value to improving lap times at Road America. Argentum cables are for high-performance two-channel systems and crossover video installations where sound is paramount. They find their best match with solid-state electronics as they're imbued with a slightly more forgiving nature in the highs with a corresponding touch of warmth in the midrange. They're also on record as providing state-of-the-art bass. They're built with solid engineering and advanced materials, much of it in-house at our Ontario, California facility. Make no mistake, despite their reasonable pricing Argentum Acoustics is XLO's competitive sibling. The key to their differences are in their manufacture. Argentum cables are of recent design and take advantage of Ultralink/XLO's long experience, economies of scale, manufacturing prowess and in-house technologies to build Argentum for less by using more machine handling than XLO requires. Luxury Build, Full-Leather, Handling and Power Packs Argentum Acoustics cables are hand terminated with beautifully engineered, direct-plated, low-mass, low-inductance connectors of 6N (99.99998% pure) laboratory-grade UPOCC (Ultra-Pure Ohno Continuous Cast) copper except for the silver Argento digital. Speaker cables are terminated with a screw-on connector making it convenient to switch between the supplied 8mm billet-cut spade lugs made from CDA alloy 101 (99.994% pure) direct gold-plated copper or a second supplied set of Deltron-style banana plugs. Like XLO, all Argentum Acoustics cables are cryogenically treated during the manufacturing process. The attractive and beautifully-finished Argentum line includes the RCA/XLR MYTHOS™ interconnect, the MILLENIA™ AES/EBU digital datalink, the remarkable PROTEUS-12™ AC power cord, and the AUREUS-2™ speaker cable in single and biwire versions, all featuring lab-grade UPOCC copper conductors. The ARGENTO™ Digital, a high-frequency 75 Ohm coaxial cable, uses laboratory-grade silver conductors; the complete line is available in popular lengths. The Critics Speak
"It only took a few minutes listening to familiar tracks … to hear the
‘excitement factor' … dynamic, alive with swift and spicy transients … Strong
midrange flavor with the perspective just slightly back of the front couple of
rows. The real surprise was bass extension and resolution, which were flat-out
state of the art … It says a lot about the sheer musicality and overall
performance of the Argentum that it can proudly hold its head up against cables
two or even three times as much."

www.veloceaudio.us NEWS RELEASE 9/24/09 T.H.E. SHOW, Las Vegas has a new home, a new look and, according to The Home Entertainment officials, "Is better than ever!" Entering its twelfth year, T.H.E. Show is relocating to the famous Flamingo Hotel, right on the Las Vegas Strip, directly across the street from Caesar's Palace. T.H.E. Show is sharing the Flamingo with Donny and Marie Osmond; a host of entertainment and dining options and, according to Richard Beers, President, "the absolute best lay-out and best pricing we have ever had". Beers says, "We actually tried to get into the Flamingo several years ago but they were tied up. They have the absolutely perfect lay-out for our high-end audio and home theater convention. The Main Convention floor will be the entire Executive Conference Center, a quick escalator down from the Main Hall and Registration in the Hotel. There is no need to cross the endless miles of Casino. Then, a very quick elevator ride to the 4th floor, and attendees can easily navigate the long, long hallway of approximately 100 exhibit rooms on that level." "There are several banks of elevators servicing the 4th floor, so we anticipate no traffic delay problems of any kind." Reporter: How is it possible that you have moved to a Strip property and can still promise to keep prices low? Haven't you always been in a 2nd or 3rd level hotel to achieve low pricing? Beers: "Well, the economic downturn has been very, very bad throughout the world and, definitely within the high-end audio world. In fact, last year our numbers were down greatly, as was participation at CES. The whole mess became more visible last October and reverberated through our world quickly. But, as it said on our website: "Don't worry about the wind…..adjust the sails". It's a quote from Ted Turner but it applies perfectly. We went back to work, finding the best possible accommodations for both our loyal Exhibitors and the attendees, keeping in mind cost considerations. We were, for a short while, talking with The Wynn Hotel, but I decided we would have to raise pricing too much to comfortably expect support from our audience. Reporter: What happened to Alexis Park and the St Tropez? Beers: We all observed the St Tropez deteriorating the last couple of years and I hear it has closed its doors. Alexis Park management did not want us back. They even took legal steps to break our contract. I won't go into rehashing the details: let's just say that we were "out" and CES has a rooming block there. You can draw your own conclusions just as I have done. The current management team refused to meet with me despite repeated attempts. Reporter: What took so long to get this announcement out to the public? Beers: We did legal jousting with Alexis Park for a few months and when it became clear we would not be going back, it took time to survey new hotels, work out the details, sign contracts and get the new website up and running. Reporter: Weren't you afraid you would lose Exhibitors? Beers: Of course, but most of our loyal, long-time Exhibitors stuck with us. They had faith and it will work out great for them and anyone else who attends T.H.E. Show this year. Exhibitors who thought they might have to skip the January event this year have been calling us since word of our changes leaked out. We are about one half the cost of our competition so it gives a lot more folks the opportunity to exhibit than originally projected. Plus, we're adding some "surprise" guests and increasing our exposure through the Audiophile Societies who have hung in there with us too. It's going to be a "win-win" for everyone. Reporter: Do you have many choices for Exhibits and accommodations? Beers: The best ever. Our Main Floor is a giant circle of large exhibit rooms where we'll be hosting the Free Lunch once again, for Exhibitors, their guests and the Press, and we'll have multiple large Exhibit Rooms already reserved by some of our great Exhibitors including Magnepan, Purist Audio, PBN Audio, Edge Electronics, dnp, VMPS, Atma-Sphere along with Classic Audio Loudspeakers and Tri-Planar, plus a very large room for WAVAC from Japan. I believe we also just added a large exhibit from Kiso Acoustic Co, Japan. Our Exhibition pricing is extremely competitive with what we have always charged……in fact, quite a bit less for the most part, compared with some of our pricing in years past. I figure it this way: we all know the entire globe has been suffering economically for over a year now. This is not the time for anyone to be raising prices, no matter what business you are in. We will still supply great service and great accommodations at great prices…..and still succeed. One simply needs to be creative and "adjust the sails". The Flamingo has also given us a great deal on sleeping rooms. Just a year or two ago, many considered no longer coming to CES and/or T.H.E. Show due to ridiculously priced sleeping rooms. The Flamingo has offered us many sleeping rooms at $99 - $119 for Standard Rooms and $110 - $160 for the newly remodeled, upgraded "GO" rooms. The "GO" rooms are truly spectacular with flat screens, new furniture, and even a television screen "in" the bathroom mirror. Really. These kinds of prices were unheard of just last year. In fact, we were charging more than this at Alexis Park. Our relationship with the Flamingo just keeps getting better. Reporter: Do you actually think, starting at this late date, you can put on a decent convention with adequate exhibitors and attendees? Beers: No! We will do much better than "adequate". We are known now. We have a Japanese representative working hard to fill rooms. He has already signed about 5 companies with another 5 considering the move. We have the Chinese Chamber of Commerce helping to sell Exhibit rooms and encourage those interested to make the trip. We have 90% of those exhibiting at T.H.E. Show 2009, re-signing for this year. And, we continue building our relationship with the hundreds of members of the LA/ORG (Los Angeles/Orange County) Audiophile Society. This association will bring us countless new audiophile exhibitors and attendees. We are truly dedicated to "building" a larger home for audiophiles, audio companies and enthusiasts that will be the envy of anything now available. Reporter: Do you continue your good relationship with the Rocky Mountain Audio Fest? Beers: Absolutely. We work very well with Marjorie Baumert, now the full proprietor of the best consumer show in the industry here in the US. In fact, we will, once again, be helping each other out running both Audio Fest and T.H.E. Show, Las Vegas. After the unfortunate and untimely passing of Al Stiefel, founder of RMAF, Marjorie and I had many, many conversations about how to proceed. Al, of course, would want RMAF to continue and Marjorie, being aided tremendously by the Colorado Audio Society and Al's personal industry friends, along with myself will work diligently to make sure both shows remain friendly and work together to supply the best available venues for the exhibitors. It really is one large, like-minded community. And Marjorie is more-than capable of running RMAF. I believe they have very few Exhibit rooms left available for the October 2nd weekend event and only a few sleeping rooms, in fact. Reporter: How about Shuttle Busses in Las Vegas? Beers: No need. We are less than a 5 minute walk to the Venetian and a 5 minute Monorail ride to the Main Las Vegas Convention Center. We have never been in a spot more convenient for our exhibitors' and attendees' needs. Reporter: Any discounts? Beers: Of course, those signing up to exhibit now, including last year's exhibitors get a 10% discount right off the bat. Last year's exhibitors will get first choice of location for their room……but there really isn't a bad location in the entire T.H.E. Show. Beyond that, on our website soon, you will see discounts for Flamingo restaurants, shows and other activities, along with discounts for Jet Blue; Enterprise and many of the ever-popular Cirque Du Soleil shows. Oh, and of course those sleeping accommodations discounts. Those can be done right on line by going to The Show website…..or calling the Flamingo 800 number and supplying them with our Code. You can see all of this on the Main Page at www.theshowlasvegas.com. Reporter: So where are you now, as of early September? Beers: We are still playing "catch up" but doing great. Our website person from last year quit (we must be brutal on website builders) so we now have two new people involved. They have done great work in a short time and we do have a very user-friendly website at www.theshowlasvegas.com. It is unlike recent websites in that it is NOT interactive when it comes to Reserving Exhibit Space. That chore must now be done by Phone, Fax and/ or e-mail. It's a bit like "the good old days". And, a bit more personal. We aren't so big we can't answer a phone or an e-mail. We have contacted all of last year's exhibitors and special long-term associates and are placing them first. After Labor Day, we will open up reservations for Exhibitors up to all. Reporter: What does T.H.E. Show offer that folks can't get at CES? Beers: The difference has always been clear to me. For both exhibitors and attendees, we are known to be much more user-friendly AND T.H.E. Show's focus is on one industry only: High-End Audio and Home Theater. Don't get me wrong, coming to Las Vegas and missing CES is not something to be considered. If you want to know absolutely anything about Electronic gadgetry and innovations, current and future, you sure don't want to miss CES. But, CES's high-end exhibits are less than 3% of their exhibits at last count. T.H.E. Show is 100% dedicated to one industry: High-End Audio and Home Theater. That's it! And, our Exhibitors are among the best in their respective fields, bringing the brightest and most innovative designs into the industry. Last year, multiple prominent audio reviewers found The Biggest Surprise at the Magnepan exhibit. I expect no less this time around. Besides, this year, T.H.E. Show is so simple to navigate there is plenty of time for both. We are a 5 minute walk from the Venetian, a 5 minute Monorail ride to the LV Convention Center and Hilton and all of our exhibits are in one location. Not to mention, the Flamingo's location is truly the Center of the Strip. Whatever one wants, one can find within walking distance. Reporter: Where is Mike Maloney, founder of T.H.E. Show these days? We don't hear much from him. Beers: Mike and I confer on matters often but, by and large, Mike doesn't have a lot of time right now. As you may know, Mike is now a very successful author having written one of the premiere books on Precious Metals: Guide to Investing in Gold and Silver. He is also Robert Kiyosaki, author of Rich Dad, Poor Dad's most important advisor in this area. Mike is consumed right now with worldwide personal appearances, articles and webinars. He is working on his second book, but we are in constant touch. For the record, Mike and I toured the Flamingo several years back and knew it would be the perfect spot for T.H.E. Show we just couldn't get in until now. Reporter: Any predictions for this coming January? Beers: As some global economists are observing, we are seeing "green shoots". Many companies have reorganized, shifted liabilities and, yes, some have even gone out of business. However, if our initial response is any indication, I would say many companies, particularly in this value-oriented climate, are slowly "coming back": and, we are there to help by supplying a great venue by which to gain global exposure. In these times, one has to "re-write one's own economic future", and we'll be there to offer a very cost-conscious alternative. Contact:

NEWS RELEASE 9/21/09 Paradigm Electronics Inc., an international leader in speaker design and manufacturing, introduces the third version of its flagship Paradigm® Reference Signature Series. Thousands of "no-holds-barred" Paradigm research and engineering hours went into developing the Signature Series v.3 speakers, which are the highest-output, most dynamic high-end loudspeakers ever produced. Contributing to v.3's 50 percent increase in output are extensive modifications to the bass/midrange drive units. Signature v.3 bass/midrange drivers are fitted with extreme low-density NLC™ (Non-Limiting Corrugated) TPE surrounds, FEA*-optimized and overmolded onto the cone. The state-of-the-art surround material is 10 times more effective than standard thermoplastic elastomers in damping vibrations and resonances and the new corrugated design has increased peak-to-peak cone excursion from 20-mm in earlier versions to a full 30-mm. A new long-stroke split-coil motor system takes advantage of the extreme excursion by doubling the linear portion of the stroke without requiring a larger magnet. The redesigned motor also keeps mass and inductance of the voice coil low for breathtaking midrange clarity. Bass cones on Signature v.3 speakers were re-engineered for increased stiffness and better equipped for higher output with new NLC™ Santoprene™ surrounds. To support the extended excursion, the motor structure was also redesigned, increasing the linear portion of the stroke through voice coils almost double the original in length. New core parts including a yoke and pole piece were retooled and FEA-optimized and even the magnets were thickened to accommodate double-distance cone travel. Value-conscious audiophiles will appreciate the option of Paradigm Reference G-PAL™ (gold-plated pure-aluminum) dome tweeters on the compact S1, C1 and ADP1 models, making the Reference Signature experience even more attainable. The Signature Series v.3 will be shown at CEDIA EXPO 2009 in Atlanta at the Paradigm booth 3325.All models will ship by CEDIA. Please visit www.paradigm.com for more details. NEWS RELEASE 9/1/09 Effective September 1st, Zu Audio once again sells our acclaimed loudspeakers, cables and accessories directly to our U.S. customers, via ZuAudio.com or telephone. After nine months serving our market through authorized dealers in the U.S., you've collectively spoken loud and clear: Zu customers want to buy from Zu. We also believe the radically changed economy of the past 12 months has reset music lovers'perception of value. So we're using the more efficient economics of direct sales to give you more for less: Our new critically acclaimedEssence loudspeaker, formerly starting at $5,000 per pair now starts at $3,495 per pair! When we read the market in mid-2008, responding to a rush of new dealer inquiries and having just introduced Presence, Druid Mk 4/08 and Definition Mk 2, we believed that retail distribution would help us deliver Zu sound to more music lovers more efficiently, expanding our customer population more quickly than we could do on our own. We gave it an honest shake but three market realities emerged as obstacles to success. First, while we selected from among the very finest audio retailers, there simply aren't enough outstanding high-fidelity audio salons to put Zu speakers within easy access to music lovers throughout this huge country of ours. Second, retail distribution required us to raise prices above traditional Zu value to provide for necessary retailer profit on Zu sales. And third, our existing customers vocally and relentlessly let us know each and every day, week and month that they prefer to buy from Zu directly. Our authorized dealers could not entice you. Add to that the dramatic shift in economic outlook after September 15, 2008 has spurred a long-term change in music lovers' perception of value in gear and the complete picture added up to a return to direct sales in the United States -- at lower prices and greater convenience. Our new Essence loudspeaker, which marries the simplicity and tonal richness of our prior Druid Mk 4/08 model with deeper bass, extended treble and some of the sonic scale of our Definition Mk 2 now starts at just $3,495 per pair—less than Druid a year ago! It's even easier to place well in any room, retaining the same 12" x 12" footprint as Druid and Definition. Gloss finishes and custom colors can be ordered at additional cost. We will further expand our line to deliver new performance benchmarks in speakers and cables, at more accessible price points for their sound, in the coming months. But for most music lovers seeking accessible high-fidelity, Essence is the right speaker right now, at the right price, at the right time.. www.ZuAudio.com/loudspeakers/essence, to find out more about Essence. Call or visit www.ZuAudio.com to learn more. And welcome back to Zu! NEWS RELEASE 9/1/09 Torus Power (www.toruspower.com) has announced that 17-inch non rack-mountable versions of all Torus Power models up to 20-amps will become available with new cosmetics in both silver and black faceplates for the consumer market. Additionally, the popular RM-15 will be reduced to a 2u rack size and with a lower MSRP of $2000 (US). A complete range of rack-mountable "Pro" models remains in the Torus lineup. Torus Power has also announced that their AVR Series (Automatic Voltage Regulation) will be available with the new consumer cosmetic treatment in 120 volt units up to the 20 amp version (RM-15, RM-20, RM-20 BAL). International AVR models (230/240 volt) will be available in 4 amp, 8 amp and 16 amp configurations. The AVR line provides all the advantages of the original Torus Power designs, such as ultra-clean AC power, complete isolation from the outside power grid and series-mode surge suppression, plus the added benefit of stabilized voltage to connected equipment. "We identified a market need for non-industrial looking consumer models up to 20-amps in size, both in the standard Torus Power series and the AVR series of products," explained sales VP James Tanner. "We now have attractive packaging available that looks quite at home in any A/V system—while offering a substantial increase in performance and protection from unwanted surges," Tanner added. The new Torus Power consumer models range in MSRP from the 2.5A version at $995 (US) to $3000 (US) for the 20A model. The Torus Power AVR series with the new cosmetic treatment run $3000 (US) for the 15A version and $4000 for the 20A models, balanced or unbalanced. All Torus Power products are backed by a 5-year limited warranty. New models will ship Q4, 2009. NEWS RELEASE 9/1/09 Green Mountain Audio of Colorado is proud to announce that their new Rio compact loudspeaker is now in retailers' hands worldwide. Rio is a time-coherent two-way speaker, which means the sounds from its woofer and tweeter arrive at one's ear at the same instant. This requires a woofer, tweeter and crossover circuit that each store the least possible energy. Thus, Rio uses the acclaimed 6" woofer found in GMA's Eos and Eos HD speaker models-- with its very lightweight yet highly rigid carbon-fiber/paper cone, driven by a very-low distortion patented neodymium magnet assembly. Rio's tweeter is a laminated soft-dome from SEAS of Norway, much lighter than any metal-dome tweeter, having an unusually large, critically-damped and highly flexible suspension. Inside is found GMA's Balanced-Phase (tm) 1st-order crossover circuit, using only a very few premium, hand-matched components. These drivers and crossover circuit are exceptionally linear in their behaviors, to produce high-contrast, lifelike dynamics on any music or soundtrack. Rio's enclosure is entirely cast from GMA's proprietary Q-Stone(tm), a rigid, non-resonant marble composite with high internal damping. Advanced 3-D modeling of dynamic pressure responses led to Rio's uniquely asymmetric internal shape, having two distinct advantages over rectangular cabinets: Its shape forces full and immediate absorption for the rear waves generated behind the woofer except for those of the lowest bass, where it causes the highest bass pressures to appear directly behind Rio's large aerodynamic bass port on the front. This latter feature is called Optimal-Point(tm) port design, for producing maximum bass output and the highest degree of woofer/port communication. On the outside, Rio's enclosure is beveled and shaped to minimize surface reflections and edge diffractions, and its overall proportions came from research into providing the smoothest possible low-frequency interaction with the nearby surfaces of tight-quarter placements. Surrounding Rio's tweeter is a premium pure-wool felt arranged in a pattern that absorbs high-frequency surface reflections and prevents diffracted waves from the enclosure's edges. This felt also widens the dispersion pattern of the tweeter for a uniform tone balance throughout the room, yet it also severely restricts the tweeter's output sent directly to the sides and up and down, for maximum clarity when Rio is placed close to reflective surfaces such as walls and video screens. Rio is very efficient and presents an easy load to any amplifier, and is designed to sound best on 20"-24" speaker stands depending on the listener's height and distance. Rio has sufficient output to fill very large rooms on any music or soundtrack, yet plays very softly for use even in the smallest rooms. The first pairs are already seeing use as nearfield studio monitors for mastering and for all channels in home theater systems. Rio is sold in matched pairs or matched sets only, and as with all Green Mountain Audio designs, is produced in limited quantities, from the limitations of its casting process and for the attention to detail required for consistent top performance. Price: US$2500/pair MSRP For complete specifications and the details of Rio's Lifetime Warranty, along with full explanation of the Design Concepts behind Rio, please visit http://www.greenmountainaudio.com/rio/ . And yes, Rio is better than our former Callisto model- more clear, more lively, better bass, more compact, all for less $$!

The Bryston D-Series D-130Z Hybrid and the D-250Z Hybrid have been in development and many dealers have expressed the need for a lightweight, high performance multi-channel amplifier for distributed audio and industrial applications such as bars and restaurants. Bryston uses the term "Hybrid" in reference to the combination of class D amplifier technology along with a Bryston engineered linear power supply design. "This is what our dealers have been asking for—a multi-channel solution built to Bryston standards," said sales VP James Tanner. "Although the D-Series is lightweight, highly energy efficient, and cost-competitive with other multi-channel products, these amplifiers also feature input stages and power supplies designed by Bryston—these are world class audio products," Tanner stated. The Bryston D-Series is a highly reliable amplifier solution with low heat emissions for tight space applications, such as the equipment racks and utility closets commonly found in restaurants, bars, and nightclubs. Unlike most competitive industrial amplifiers however, the D-Series carries on Bryston's tradition of sonic excellence and durability.

Bryston (www.bryston.com) NEWS RELEASE 9/1/09 B&W Loudspeakers, the British manufacturer recognized internationally as one of the world's leading sources of loudspeaker technology, has added a new subwoofer, the ASW12-CM, to the wildly successful CM Series. "Our CM series has proven to be a global winner," says Doug Henderson, VP of Sales and Marketing. "It has been difficult keeping up with demand, especially with the gloss black finish, but we are catching up and now adding the ASW12-CM to complete the formidable line up." With the arrival of the new ASW 12 CM from Bowers & Wilkins, the CM series is complete. Comprised of two bookshelf speakers, two floor standing models, two center channels, and two subwoofers, the CM series delivers a wide range of system options and easily the best performance/value speaker propositions in the market. Further, its elegant styling, and beautifully finished wood veneers, blend seamlessly into almost any décor. The ASW 12 CM adds yet another dimension to bass performance in a quality home theater system. It is very similar in design to the ASW10, but features a 12-inch Kevlar®/paper cone with a long-throw driver in a larger enclosure with a higher power amplifier, to obtain deeper bass and higher output capability. The voice coil utilizes a large 3-inch assembly to easily accommodate the high internal temperatures associated with powerful explosions during action scenes, while the dual suspension maintains cone alignment and lowers distortion. The driver chassis is a rigid diecast metal to prevent flexing under stress and further lower distortion. The ASW 12 CM amplifier delivers plenty of power with its innovative 500-watt Class D design and can easily fill very large rooms with earthshaking bass, yet offers all the control necessary for tuneful music playback. The internal crossover incorporates a three-position switch to tune the subwoofer for the best performance in any room. "A" position provides 18 Hz, while "B" delivers 23 Hz, and "C" gives 28 Hz, all at -6dB. The crossover points can be adjusted from 40 Hz – 140 Hz. Functions include: Input Level (Line In), Input Level (Speaker In), Low-pass filter frequency, low-pass filter bypass (line in only), Bass extension, Bass roll-off alignment, Auto-sense on/standby, and a phase switch. Inputs include: Line In (RCA Phono), Speaker In (Binding Post), and a 12-V trigger (3.5mm jack). The ASW 12 CM looks as good as it performs and is available in the very popular Gloss Black finish. The ASW 12 CM will be available in September, with a suggested retail price of $2,000 each. Marantz's new A/V receiver offerings include two Bluetooth-capable models, the SR6004 (SRP: $1,249.99) and SR5004 (SRP: $849.99), as well as the new "Slimline" Model NR1501 (SRP: $599.99), designed to offer consumers and custom installers a space-saving receiver solution. The SR6004 and SR5004 replace the SR6003 and SR5003, respectively, and are scheduled for availability later this month. The NR1501 replaces the SR4003 and began shipping in July 2009. Noted Kevin Zarow, Vice President, Marketing and Product Development, Marantz America, Inc: "Marantz is committed to providing its customers ways to expand and enhance their home entertainment experience. With our new Bluetooth-capable models users can literally expand their home entertainment environment by accessing their music directly and wirelessly from their portable music devices, including MP3 players and cell phones as well as from USB drives and PCs. That means they can now store their music wherever they want and still enjoy a high level of listening through their main home entertainment system from virtually any location in the home." Bluetooth Capability for More Flexibility in Great Sound Both the Marantz SR6004 and SR5004 are Bluetooth capable home theater receivers, designed to work in conjunction with Marantz' new RX101 Bluetooth receiver (SRP: $129.99). The RX101, which is powered by the receiver, is included with the purchase of the SR6004 and may be purchased separately for use with the SR5004. The RX101 works by receiving audio signals from Bluetooth-enabled devices (PDAs, PCs as entertainment devices, etc.) and sending them directly to the connected receiver, allowing users to enjoy great sound and more flexibility from their home entertainment sources. Users may listen to streaming audio from their Bluetooth-enabled cell phones, MP3 players, computers or other devices, including the iPhone™ and iPod Touch®*. For total convenience, the RX101 may be placed anywhere in a room for ideal reception of a Bluetooth signal; and because the RX01 also functions as an IR sensor, users can literally hide their Marantz system behind closed cabinet doors and still control it by pointing their remote at the RX101. Several innovative advancements distinguish Marantz's new receivers from competitors and make them ideal for use in expanded home entertainment networks. For example, with its 4-In/2-Out HDMI Repeating capability, the SR6004 allows users to connect two separate displays and switch from one to the other without changing cables. In addition, the SR6004 features a front-panel USB input that is compatible with the iPod® and iPhone™, supports playback of MP3, WMA and WAV files, and provides playback control via remote (Play, Stop, FF, BWD, Skip Forward, Random and Repeat Play), while showing music track information on the unit's newly designed Graphical User Interface. Both models feature advanced processing and sonic enhancement technologies to ensure a superior listening experience and compatibility with today's highest quality sound formats. For example, both support HBR Audio with advanced HBR (High Bit Rate) Audio Decoding, as well as Dolby Pro Logic llz, Dolby True HD, and dts HD decoding. They also feature a full 10-bit video processor that supports an I/P converter for video scaling to 1080p from all analog sources as well as the transcoding of analog signals to HDMI. For total future-readiness, both models accept LPCM 7.1 signals from a Blu-Ray player, have dual component outputs as well as DC Triggers and RS232C. Like all Marantz A / V receivers, both the SR6004 and SR5004 offer a wide variety of features and capabilities that will appeal particularly to custom installers. Marantz' elegant new shallower chassis design (< 16" deep) makes the units perfectly suited to rack-mounting, adding to installation flexibility, and additional room on the backside of the unit makes cabling easier and more convenient. A cursor-controlled menu system affords total ease of operation. Both models feature Audyssey Dynamic EQ, Dynamic Volume and MultEQ Auto Calibration. Furthermore, potentially allowing for even more expanded capabilities in the future, both the SR6004 and SR5004 also feature the innovative M-XPort (Marantz eXpansion Port). NR1501's "Slimline" Chassis Solves Space and Placement Issues The new Marantz NR1501 was designed to solve a common problem for custom installers and consumers – how to integrate today's most advanced audio/video capabilities into a home entertainment system without the addition of another large component. The super-compact NR1501 solves this problem with its unique "Slimline" chassis. Just over 4" high and 13" deep, the NR1501 is approximately half the size of most traditional A/V receivers, allowing it to fit comfortably on a normal shelf or in a standard cabinet. Adding to its elegant cosmetics, a contoured front panel combines aluminum and glass-reinforced resins for maximum shielding, dimensional stability, and sophisticated styling. Despite its compact size, the NR1501 makes no compromises on performance or features. It features four HDMI 1.3 inputs for maximum performance from all today's most advanced video sources. A full complement of built-in audio codecs ensures compatibility with advanced audio formats such as Dolby TrueHD and DTS Master Audio. A built-in transcoder lets users enjoy all their favorite composite and component videos via HDMI with a single cable solution. The unit also features a wideband 3-in/1-out component switcher for analog-only connections. For added convenience and flexibility, a front panel 3.5mm connector lets users connect their iPods or other portable devices. The on-screen display menu simplifies system setup and a full-function Glo-key remote includes preset codes for Marantz Blu-ray players so you can operate the heart of your system without searching for another remote. * Installation of iPhone 3.0 Software Update required.

"Four Genre-Neutral Studies for Vibraphone Avant-Garde", played by Unipheye Music owner and recording engineer Ira Norman Segall, is a series of modern, contemporary classical music studies for the vibraphone that in the words of the musician; "…simply poured out of me and had to occur. This is a very organic expression that flowed from my core-creative-place. This work had to happen. An artist knows when the work begins to flow from deep inside and it keeps coming and it absolutely refuses to stop. Althea Musica NEWS RELEASE THIEL Loudspeakers (www.thielaudio.com), has announced the debut of a new surface-mount outdoor loudspeaker called the DewPoint™. A derivative of THIEL's groundbreaking PowerPoint ®1.2 on-wall/on-ceiling speaker, the DewPoint™ can be placed in a wide variety of outdoor (and indoor) locations on ceilings and walls in an inclement environment provided that it does not receive direct exposure to water. Mounting DewPoints beneath an eave or under a covered porch are good examples of recommended placement. Many steps have been taken to provide the DewPoints with a high degree of resistance to environmental extremes. The enclosure is made of sturdy aluminum and is paintable to match any décor. The DewPoint's anodized aluminum grille is impervious to rust and attached to the cabinet with a soft-set adhesive. All of the mounting hardware included with the speakers is made of top quality stainless steel. The DewPoint's combination of coaxial/coplanar drivers, wedge-shaped enclosure, and 90 degree radiation pattern enables the sound to cover virtually any area far more completely than normal, more directional surface-mount or in-wall/in-ceiling speakers. By utilizing the combination of carefully engineered woofer positioning and angle, DewPoints eliminate the wall-reflection cancellation that mars the sonic performance of virtually every other surface-mounted speaker. DewPoints will ship to authorized THIEL dealers in fall, 2009. Price is TBD. Hard Disk Management More and more people have amassed large collections of music on their computer hard disks, and there are an increasing number of USB-input DACs to serve them. If properly setup and implemented computer-based systems are capable of smooth and detailed sound, especially with high resolution recordings. But as with any system component you need quality, well-engineered and built USB cables to get there. Furutech turned its Pure Transmission engineering talents toward creating the highest quality 2.0 USB cable possible.
